Jaren Holmes

As long as we’re asking about players / roles. Having not been able to watch many games the past few weeks, I’m curious somewhat about Holmes.

He shoots a lot to get his points (37% from field so far) and has about a 1:1 assist to TO ratio. He’s just ok free throw shooter (65%) and averages 3-4 boards a game (not bad).

He took 15 shots last night to score 10 pts. That being said, he was +5. He is a man on the court for sure. Is he considered a lockdown defender and/or glue guy?

TCU game —Refs

I know about the FT discrepancies, but I think they actually did a pretty good job. Fran clearly pointed out the leg deal on the 3’s but those are tough to call.

Maybe Jones on the hard pick (thought he was set) and the subsequent blocking call on him, but other that those, pretty fair shake in the road.

Race Thompson

Thought maybe it deserved a separate post since the Clones were runner up to Indiana for Race Thompson. Race’s mom and my wife are good friends and former college teammates.

Per a text from his mom this AM, he is having an MRI this morning after getting rolled up by a Hawkeye last night.

Best case is a sprained knee and he’ll be back maybe for tournaments. Concern is he tore something and would be done for the year/career.

Course it had to happen at the Shit Hole that is Carver when he has 9 pts in the first 10 minutes…bad karma there man.

Should the entire Big 12 go to the dance?

I know it is still early, but Ken Pom has all 10 Big 12 schools in his top 35. There are only 4 Little 10 schools( out of 14) that make the top 35. Right now the last bracketology has 8 Big 12 and 8 Little 10 schools in the dance. The Big 12 is essentially crazy good, actually dominating Mens Basketball. Iowa is currently 52 on Ken Pom, so if the last 2 in the Big 12 can not make the dance, Iowa should never even be considered.

Random Saturday basketball stuff

Watched a bit of the Drake/Murray State game. Our own CSP back in state leading the Racers. He had much the same success in Iowa today as he did in his last season in the state.

Props to Drake and their crowd. I realize it was a Saturday, which helps, but compared to some of the arenas I see across basketball this year, including Oklahoma this past week, good job outta them to fill up their building (with no students-since that is the excuse everyone else gives)

I know many don't care for Chris Hassel on here, but he had this tweet today, trolling all those who made fun of his tweet of 1.75 years ago touting the signing of Kalscheur. He tweeted then that Gabe would be a good fit for CTO. Click the play button to see the tweet scroll.

Is Gundy under fire?

Players are bailing in Stillwater and Gundy has pissed off the media. That is not a good combination.
