It finally happened to me, hawked

I'll admit I've never really been of a fan of these types of posts because they always seemed to have a Penthouse Letters sort of feel to them but today I got to experience my first nonconsensual hawkeye asshat encounter.

I went for a bike ride around town with my two boys and the bike trail winds around behind several local restaurants. As we passed by one I noticed a group of 4 middle-aged guys decked out in hawkeye gear sitting on the patio. We passed by with zero interaction and I'll note that I was not wearing anything Cyclone related. On our way back as we pass by the patio again here comes a handful of french fries thrown by one of hawkeye douchebags at my kids and I. They all missed and scattered onto the bike trail. I was stunned and blurted out "you throw like a hawkeye!" before I was out of sight down the trail. What kind of grown man just throws food at a dad and his kids on the bike trail for no reason? Had the boys not been there I probably would have turned around and had some more choice words.

Can Trump issue 75,0000,000 preemptive pardons via autopen?

Since Biden pardoned his friends with autopen, can Trump now issue preemptive pardons to anyone that voted for him? Literally pay people with preemptive pardons for anything, just for voting for him? Biden has set the precedent by issuing over 8,000 pardons via autopen, that he did not even look at. If Biden gets to pardon his "friends", then why not have all presidents give preemptive pardons via autopen for their "friends" / voters.

I had to laugh

I saw a Sports Illustrated story that depicted the Ioway transfer portal acquisition of former walk-on OL George Nahas as some sort of bitter rivalry win over us. Let me reiterate. They got a walk-on out of the portal and they think it's a win of some sort. The only win here is making Iowa use up a scholarship on a guy who likely would have never seen the field with us and who we got for free. I never knew Nahas' was on the team before he hit the portal.

Democratic party has no future without Illegals.

This might explain why the Democratic party absolutely needs illegals here:

If we deport 20M illegals, this would be the equivalent of about 25 house seats in congress. Each House seat is represents 750K people, and it is based upon the total census including illegals. Most of these house seats would be in blue areas of the country, and this would mean a loss to the democratic party of 25 seats. That would leave them in the minority for decades possibly.

They also need to convert these illegals into voters at some point, because they are looking at an electoral college getting very red in 2030 and 2040, and it could be far worse if we deport all the illegals. THey have no future in elections without the illegals becoming voters.

Just now realizing how many youngsters we have on the OL

Aside from the five probable starters and four probable backups, we have a buttload of true freshmen and redshirt freshmen on the OL. I count 8 underclassmen in that group. There would have been 10 had the Helton twins not jumped ship. There are only two sophomores and two juniors in the first 9 I mentioned as well. The other five are seniors. I just didn't realize we were that young.

#1 FB recruit picks the U

I figured it would be Oregon because of Nike, track strength and one of the money conferences. Guess Miami had significant cash. Graduating next January, so this spring is his last chance to reset all his HS shot and discus records.

FOOTBALL ***2025 NFL Draft catch-all thread***

Heard on the Herd (Colin) at lunch the Jets are shopping Breece around. They said there was a post on the internet with Breece crossing his fingers :) If true I hope the Bears pick him up. Talk of the Bears trying to get Gentry but I'd rather use the pick for some other position. I don't understand why Gentry is thought of so much more than Skattebo. He looks good on film but they both do and Gentry plays against a much weaker schedule. Look what Skattebo did against Iowa State and then in the CFP game against Texas.

Hope one of our guys slips into round 1. Probably not but I've heard nothing but good reports on Noel and Higgins. Not as much on Porter but what I have has been very positive.

Trump's Bull In A China Shop Methods Is Not Good Policy

Company after company are pulling or slashing their earnings outlooks as Trump's reckless policies are making it impossible to forecast earnings.

"Executives are increasingly sounding the alarm over how Trump’s vacillating trade policies have sapped consumer and business sentiment, raising fears that even if tariffs are rolled back substantially, the damage done in the last few months will not be easily reversed."

Whether you like what you think his end goal is, the market reaction has led to layoffs and chaos. Despite Trump's strong handed approach, he may be forced to pull back so businesses can regain some sort of sanity and actually create plans. The ability of businesses to plan is an absolute necessity.

Part of me thought maybe shock is the only way to get things to happen, although I'd have preferred a more surgical approach. I thought maybe this is just part of Trump's negotiating strategy to get some movement. But with the difficulty this is creating for businesses, he will be losing some of his leverage. Foreign countries will see this and may wait it out as our own businesses push back and do their fighting for them. At least to an extent. China is one that could wait it out for the next President if they wanted to. They have always had longer term economic views than that of western nations.
