***VOLLEYBALL - STORY: Johnson-Lynch enters 20th season with experienced group***

I'm very excited to welcome @EmilieZeis to the CycloneReport.com team as a staff writer! Emilie's focus will be on covering Iowa State volleyball and women's basketball. Yes, CycloneReport.com will begin covering women's basketball for what should be an exciting season!!!

Emilie is a freshman at ISU and former high school athlete who played both volleyball and girl's basketball, so I'm looking forward to her contributions given her passion and knowledge of those two sports combined with her writing ability.

ISU Winery

The winery at ISU won big at the state fair this year, and to several other accolades nationally and internationally. It’s called the Midwest Grape and Wine Industry Institute, and is a leaning experience for horticulture students. All grapes used come from a two acre plot owned by ISU as well as from vineyards around the state.

The Director is Erin Norton. Ironically, Norton is the state grape of Missouri 😊

Where was this Institute when I was in school and the drinking age was 19? Probably a good thing it wasn’t around when VIESHA existed.

Question

For 5 or 6 months, Dylan Lee was the most mentioned RB, particularly with Sama and Hansen sitting out the spring system. But now, he not only gets no mention on the depth chart, he gets no mention from the coaches, especially the running back coach.

Is something going on? Walkons have actually been mentioned more? Not meshing with a coach who didn't recruit him?

Or just a freshman who is just not ready.

Joens, Soares to play overseas.

Soares is still listed on Dallas Wings roster.

Jordan Silkowitz traded

The KC Current just traded former ISU goalie Jordan Silkowitz to Bay FC for defender Kayla Sharples. I don’t think Jordan saw a minute of playing time with the Current since being drafted in 2023.

In fact, she was on loan to the Brisbane Roar for the 2023-2024 Australia A-League Women season, where she played 19 matches (all starts) with three clean sheets. Maybe this will give her an opportunity to see the pitch in the NWSL.

FOOTBALL ***RELEASE: Brezina Named to Shaun Alexander Award Watch List***

Iowa State Media Relations

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State freshman linebacker Cael Brezina has been named to the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award preseason watch list. The list includes 37 freshmen nationally and Brezina is one of three linebackers on the initial list.

A Downers Grove, Illinois, native, Brezina joined the Cyclones in the spring after a stellar high school career.

Brezina was a consensus three-star linebacker recruit and the No. 15 recruit in the state of Illinois according to ESPN.

ND coach preview ISU

Nothing real ground breaking but thought I would share.

Regardless of party affiliation, you are a traitor to the USA if…

you have an issue with voter identification.

It should be a sacred right of citizens.

Saying that it is racist is the weakest and most pathetic defense of providing a legitimate ID.

You need to have a legitimate ID to buy alcohol, buy tobacco, get into an R- Rated
Movie, get a tattoo, rent a car, the list goes on and on beyond my imagination.

Saying that it is racist to require valid ID to vote IS RACIST. That person is saying that those individuals are too stupid to get a valid ID.

The only person against requiring valid proof of citizenship is trying to circumvent the requirement for personal benefit. It is beyond simplicity.

I say to them, would you let just any random person off of the street move into your spare bedroom across from your 4 year old daughter without asking them anything about themselves or asking for references. Then giving them a weekly allowance and input on family decisions. course not.

It’s pure insanity and hypocrisy.
Nothing political about it.

Fascinating footprints

I've just seen two separate stories on ancient footprint discoveries. The first was a set of 260-some dinosaur footprints that looked very similar, one set found in Brazil and the other in Cameroon in Africa. The kicker? Cameroon and Brazil used to be side by side way back in the early stages of the planet in a land mass called Gondwana, the remnants of which make up about two-thirds of the land mass in the world today. It includes South America, Africa, Madagascar, Australia, India and Antarctica. The fascinating part of these footprints is that they could have been made by the same animal, as dinosaurs back then could have easily crossed from Cameroon to Brazil without getting their feet wet.

The second footprint was a human footprint discovered in the 1980s in New Mexico, that they dated between 290 million and 248 million years ago. The reason for the dating was because it was allegedly found in the Permian layer, which goes back that far. The only problem is the latest estimate on when humans first walked on earth is 3 million years ago. One caveat on this is there is a lot of internet speculation that this footprint is a hoax. I haven't found anything yet to either confirm or refute the authenticity of this footprint, but the linked story seems to refute it.

Offensive line

I am hearing there have been several "minor" injuries (not season ending) which may or may not include Covid related issues. They impacted time in camp and might impact availability for first few games in a couple cases. I was not told who, just a great deal of shuffling has occurred.

Also I am not sure what "several" constitutes. I took it as 3-4 but I don't know. I would assume one is Travis, since he was mentioned in another thread, but that is an assumption, not knowledge.
