FOOTBALL RELEASE: Hutchinson one of three finalists for Biletnikoff Award

Iowa State Media Relations

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State senior wide receiver Xavier Hutchinson is one of three finalists for the Biletnikoff Award, given annually to the nation’s outstanding FBS receiver regardless of position.

Hutchinson recently concluded one of the best careers in school history with one of the best seasons ever by a Cyclone wide receiver.

The Jacksonville, Florida, native, broke his own school record with 107, leading the nation in receptions and receptions per game (8.9) during the regular season. He’s one of just two receivers nationally with more than 100 catches.

He also led the Big 12 Conference and finished seventh nationally with 1,171 receiving yards.

Hutchinson caught at least eight passes in 11 of 12 games as a senior. He finished the season with six touchdown receptions, including the game-winner in Iowa State’s victory at Iowa in week two of the season.

In his three-year career, Hutchinson broke the Iowa State career record with 254 receptions and 13 100-yard games. He also posted a school-record nine games with 10 or more receptions. His 254 receptions were also a Big 12 record for three-year players.

Hutchinson reached the end zone 15 times in his career, tied for the fifth-most in school history.

Other finalists for the award are Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr., and Jalin Hyatt of Tennessee.

What a STRANGE season

We go 3-0 in non-conference and all three opponents are postseason teams. I thought the offense we saw against Iowa would be an anomaly. Back in September, I never would’ve expected it to prove to be the rule for the remainder of the season rather than the exception. I just hope Matt does a thorough, objective evaluation of the offensive side of the football program and makes whatever changes need to be made to return the program to 2018-20 levels in 2023. Like many, though, I’m not holding my breath . . .

One FB play I'd like to have over....

Well, there were actually several this season, of course.

But it was late in the K-State game...4th quarter and we had a 4th and 1 on about our own 20. We needed the 1st down and went for it. And of course, we plunged a running back into the line or off-tackle and were stopped short.

From my seat with the pigeons, I could see that the defense had nearly everyone up in the box. The middle of the field was wide open. Just once, I was hoping we'd fake a run into the line and spin Hutchinson or Noel out on a fly down the middle. It was a sure 80-yard TD just waiting to happen. Other than needing to catch the pass...which I know might have been another story.

I'd like to take more chances like this...instead of doing the conventional.

Here's the brass tax truth under the ugly portion from an outsider......

TJ Press conference after the game

I know it's easy to get the warm fuzzies after such a massive win, and I think we all kind of knew this, but to hear it said out loud is really amazing:

TJ Otzelberger, on the verge of tears:

“I love Iowa State. I want to build the program for the long haul. This is for life. I’m living my dream.”

Enough said. Incredible.

Bear, hoax 36 debunked

We were told for two days that the Colorado Springs shooting was due to LGBTQIA+ hate, due to Tucker Carlson and Ron Desantis, and the Dont Say Gay bill, and was probably an NRA loving MAGA person.

Oops, MSM and their narrative wrong again. It was a non-binary (?) person who goes by they/them and uses Mx instead of Mr or Mrs. Seems like another right winger, just like the Pelosi nudist/BLM attacker.

CNN can’t believe it in real time.

FOOTBALL RECRUITING A couple of transfer portal kickers to keep an eye on

I wouldn't be surprised if Iowa State takes a serious look, and perhaps offers, these two placekickers that recently hit the transfer portal.

Proactive

If, and it's a really big if, the end of the football season brings about some major changes, I hope Coach Campbell is extremely proactive with his hires. Proactive to the extent that he's not sitting in his office going through resume's and deciding who he wants to interview, but actively reaching out to coaches he considers to be extremely successful at what they do (even if it's coaches that he would think there would be no way they'd ever consider leaving their current position). In that meeting he'll more than likely have with Jamie P at the end of the year I hope he says something like he realizes the problems and he has a plan to fix it and it's going to start with me pursuing coach x,y, and z, but if we can get them it's going to take a whole lot of money. So how bad do you want to fix the problem and how much can I spend? I'm not for spending money just for the sake of spending money, but I do think our main problems are going to require some a "wow" hires.

Million dollar sale, but not the Cyclone Basketball Tickets

SAW THIS on a North Central US Radio/TV business blog about the sale of the radio station in Hampton. Last line is in an interesting one.

The deal includes the station’s licenses, studio facilities, and transmission equipment, but the seller will retain a pickup truck, computer, and Iowa State University basketball season tickets.
