Conference basketball games at neutral sites

I was watching the Heartland College Sports podcast either Saturday or Sunday night, and Pete Mundo mentioned that Yormark has talked about holding conference games in November at neutral sites. He also said that those games would not count in the conference standings. Mundo thought it was a good idea for the exposure, especially at that time of year. I’m not too sure about it.

AMES, Iowa – No. 12 Iowa State (21-5, 7-2 Big 12) punched its ticket to the National Quarterfinals with a 4-1 victory over No. 20 UCLA (15-8, 6-4 Pac-12) Friday afternoon at the Ames High Tennis Complex.

How it Happened
The Cyclones opened the dual by grabbing the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. No. 77 Xinyi Nong and Ange Oby Kajuru were first to finish at No. 2 with a dominant 6-0 win against Ava Catanzarite and Sasha Vagramov. At the No.1 spot, No. 66 Naklo handed No. 14 ranked Tian her second loss of the season 7-6 (3), 6-0 to put the Cyclones within striking distance. One minute later, Cabezas punched Iowa State’s ticket to the national quarterfinals with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Vagramov at No. 5.

Any Updates on Betting Story?

Things have been pretty quiet, at least on the message boards. I did run across an article on another site that was talking about penalties being pretty severe, including loss of future eligibility if an athlete bets on any game involving his school in any sport.

It also talked about punishments of increasing degrees if betting on other teams (not from your College or University). It was based on the amount wagered. They sited a Va Tech LB who bet $500 total in a series of bets on pro sports and received a 6 game suspension. I would link it but not sure how. It is on the Squawk rivals free football board. Surprisingly civil discussion on that particular thread.

What solid information has anyone read on the subject.

ISU engineers at Boeing

When I was at Boeing back in the 80s, there were a lot of ISU engineers there. They hired primarily from UW, theOSU, Michigan and Iowa State. Just read an article in Aviation Week that Boeing is in trouble with Brazil because they are hiring away all of Embraer's engineers. Brazil apparently has an several excellent engineering schools. What goes? Can't ISU match the Brazilians. Are we still sending engineers to Boeing? Just curious about where we stand with them these days.

Explain This To Me

Stetson Bennett, QB of the national champion Georgia Bulldogs. was recently drafted by the LA Rams. He was in school for 6 years, and somehow managed to NOT graduate in that time.

Seems to me that the academic compliance officer or whatever the position is called in the U of Georgia has some explaining to do. Did he change majors 5 times? Or do they just ignore those kind of things in the SEC?

Are dems going to hit the panic button?

New ABC News/Washington Post poll shows Biden getting crushed by both Trump and Desantis, by 5-7 points. This is a very PRO lib poll. Consider what is happening:

Economy for 2023 is tanking.
2024 is looking even worse.
Biden is literally falling apart before our very eyes. The man is clearly in full blown dementia, and needs to be put into a home immediately.
Because of his health, I have to believe he has a good chance of dying during the campaign. Later stages of dementia cause the body to start shutting down, watched this with my own mother.

Doyle Brunson RIP

Legendary poker player Doyle Brunson, aka Texas Dolly, has died at age 89. I suspect his tombstone will have 10, deuce on it, one of his favorite hands in Texas Hold'em. He won two WSOP tournaments with that hand. Both times he was way behind after the flop when the flop only gave him a pair of 10s. Both times, he hit runner, runner on the turn and river to win. The first time, it was runner, runner deuces. to beat two pair, aces and jacks, with a full house. The second time, just a year later, in the same tournament where he was defending champion, he hit 10, deuce on the turn and river to get another full house, 10s over deuces, to beat two pair, 8s and 5s. He would have won the second hand anyway without the river deuce because he had trip 10s. The hand became henceforth known as the Brunson.

The Athletic article on NIL and tampering

For those who subscribe, there’s an excellent article by Bruce Feldman and Max Olson on tampering in NIL. One of the points that was very interesting was the involvement of agents and player reps. The NFLPA limits commissions to 3%, but there are no limitations on NIL deals. So, if an agent can extract a 15% to 20% cut, steering the player to an NIL deal could prove to be quite lucrative for the agent.
