Family heirlooms - when to part ways?

As the self-appointed family historian who is recently single and always childless, I've collected so many artifacts from silver sets and china, to christening outfits, WW2 ration books and spats that I don't know what to do with. Nobody else in the family has an interest and (basically) nobody sets a nice table any more. I'm "attached" to the items simply because of family ties but I'm struggling with parting with some things as it feels disrespectful?

Anyone else have the same struggles?

Saying something nice about Deion Sanders...

Saw an interview with him yesterday and some journo asked if he was rooting for anyone to lose so they can get in. He said not a chance - Said they blew their opportunity so now they are playing simply to win a game. Obviously a tad coach speak but I appreciated the stance of they had it in their hands and blew it... Still hate the guy.

Trump’s DEI Cabinet

Trump’s cabinet appointees are made up of strong, smart people that will support his agenda. A bunch of MAGA white guys right? Who knew they would be so diverse? They are breaking barriers right and left (pun intended).

Scott Bessett - Treasury Secretary: would be the first openly gay Republican cabinet member to be approved by the Senate. Move over Pothole Pete, Bessett will also become the highest ranking openly gay cabinet member.

Scott Turner - Nominee for HUD Secretary is black

Tulsi Gabbard - The first Hindu elected to Congress could be the first Pacific Islander to serve as Director of National Intelligence.

Susie Wiles - First woman to serve as White House Chief of Staff.

Caroline Leavitt - At 27 will be the youngest White House Press Secretary and the first from Generation Z.

Marco Rubio - Likely to be the first Latino to serve as Secretary of State.

Elise Stefanik - At 40 could be the youngest U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.

Dr. Mehmet Oz - A Turkish American woul be the first Muslim to lead the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Dr. Janette Nesheiwat - Daughter of Jordanian Christian immigrants is the appointee for Surgeon General.

Of course Trump is married to a legal immigrant, and his VP is married to the daughter of legal Indian immigrants. Usha Vance will also be the first Hindu American Second Lady.

That’s not even counting the leaders of DOGE.

Quite the group, considering it was assembled by the next Hitler!

Winter snowfall forecast

As I got older I always thought it snowed less in the winter than when I was a kid. While data may show that is true, the change is far smaller than the change I perceived. I decided many years ago that the difference in my childhood perception was due to my small size relative to the snow. But it also seems like meaningful snowfall occurs later than it used to and has resulted in many Christmas seasons without snow. According to the linked article, we can expect slightly less snow in Iowa than decades ago.

Dreaming of snow this winter? Look up the forecast in your area.
