Something I did not know

I was watching American Pickers last night and Mike Wolfe and his brother, Robbie, were looking at what they called a soccer game, but looked suspiciously like a regular old foosball table to me. Robbie Wolfe said he was particularly interested in it because his daughter played division 1 soccer in college. They then showed a picture of her and she was wearing an Iowa State uniform. Turns out his daughter is Adelaide Wolfe, a junior defenceman from Bettendorf who transferred in from Indiana State. It says right in her official bio who her father and uncle are. I'm not in the habit of scouring the rosters of all the minor sports at Iowa State, so this was news to me and I thought maybe some of you too.

FOOTBALL ***RELEASE: Campbell on Dodd Trophy Midseason Watch List***

Iowa State Media Relations

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State head football coach Matt Campbell, who earlier this season became the program’s winningest coach, has been named to the 2024 Dodd Trophy midseason watch list.

Under the direction of Campbell, in his ninth season as head coach at the school, ISU has risen to No. 9 in the latest Associated Press Top 25. The Cyclones are 6-0 overall, the best start by the program since 1938. They are bowl eligible for the seventh time in nine seasons and have started 3-0 in Big 12 play for the second time under Campbell and just third time overall.

Campbell owns 59 career victories at Iowa State, surpassing Dan McCarney’s total of 56 wins earlier this season.

Campbell and the Cyclones are back in action Saturday when they host UCF at Jack Trice Stadium at 6:30 p.m. (CT) on FS1

Recapping My West Virginia Trip

First off, a BIG thank you to the posters here who shared their prior experience about attending a Mountaineer game and what to expect. Your comments were spot on!

Our experience:
1. Their fans are very hospitable. We tailgated in one of the university tailgate lots and were immediately welcomed and tailgated together.
I received at least a dozen congratulatory remarks post-game about the win.

2. They hate Pitt as much as we despise the Squawkeyes though they love the Pirates, Steelers, and Panthers.

3. They are passionate about firing their coach. The sentiment was magnified tenfold after their loss. Some comments that President Gordon Gee is protecting Brown.

4. We had tix in the corner of the upper deck where most Cyclone fans were seated. My friends were exhausted from the long walk so we grabbed some empty lower level seats. Come to find out the Becht family was seated in front of us. What a great family!

5. We were offered some Moonshine but it turned out to be the Fake ID of Moonshine (Hawaiian Punch + Tito's) 😆

6. All in all a great and memorable trip!

FOOTBALL ***RELEASE: Campbell Named to Paul “Bear” Bryant Coach of the Year Award Watch List***

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State head football coach Matt Campbell has been named to the American Heart Association’s 2024 Paul “Bear” Bryant Coach of the Year Award watch list, a list of current coaches in consideration for the annual top honor.

The award, given each January to a college football coach, recognizes contributions that make the sport better for athletes and fans alike by demonstrating grit, integrity and a winning approach to coaching and life – both on and off the field.

Led by Campbell, No. 9 Iowa State is off to its first 6-0 start since 1938 and are bowl eligible for the seventh time in nine seasons. The Cyclones are 3-0 in Big 12 play for the second time under Campbell and the first time since 2020.

With 59 wins at ISU, Campbell passed Dan McCarney to become Iowa State’s winningest head coach this season.

Now in its 39th year, the Coach of the Year award winner will be announced live from Houston’s Post Oak Hotel on Wednesday, January 22, 2024, during an awards ceremony presented by Marathon Oil. The National Sports Media Association, the Bryant Awards’ Executive Leadership Team and the Bryant Family voted on the watch list, finalists and Coach of the Year recipient.

Iowa State hosts UCF inside Jack Trice Stadium at 6:30 p.m. (CT) on FS1.

Trump should claim the sky is blue.

And then we can watch liberals try to tell us how it actually is green. This is why America will never come together, liberals must always take the opposite position on anything Trump. TDS has made all democrats mentally ill.

Just saw a liberal news caster call out Trump for claiming apartment complexes are being taken over by illegal immigrant gangs. Her excuse was, "It was only some complexes". Total TDS, she was literally going to bat for horrible immigrant gangs, trying to say it was ok that only "some" apartment complexes are being run by them. If even only 1 complex is run by them, that is unacceptable. But like all lis, she throws reality out the window just to be the opposite of Trump.

And have no doubt, libs don't hate Trump, they actually hate US. There is no coming together ever again. More likely to be a civil war or WWIII then coming together .

Jamie Pollard interview

HERE is a podcast interview of Jamie. This link is on Spotify, but it is also on Apple as well. The podcast is BachelorForeLife. The guy Alex, that does the podcast is from Story City, and he mostly just talks about sports, but also interviews local people. I think he got this interview through a mutual connection.

His local interviews are actually pretty interesting. He is not a professional by any means, but he does a great job just asking good questions to a local fireman about what they really do, or a foreign exchange student, or a local principal turned minister. Just getting into the details of what just regular people do.

In Jamie's interview, it is wild because it is not a discussion, it is just a list of questions that are all scattershot. A real radio interview professional might weave the questions together, but this is left field, right field, bunt, single up the middle. All over the place. But all good questions.

No breaking news, but some interesting stuff that I didn't know. Like why the campground is gravelled and not paved. Also some discussions about how you go about hiring and firing a coach. About a 25 minute interview at regular speed (I listen to my podcasts at 1.4x)

Saturday's TV ratings

Our game with WVU did not fare too well. I get we were going against some big dogs. But we need more eyeballs.
Saturday night:
Ohio State/Oregon 9.6MM NBC
Mississippi/LSU 4.2MM ABC
UF/UT 3.3MM ESPN
ISU/WVU 1.2MM FOX
Wazzou/Fresno 250K FS1

Our game was compelling for awhile, but if we want TV dollars for our conference, this needs to change. When an ESPN game is almost tripling up a over the air network.... Yikes. We didn't have competition from a conference mate either. Conference fans need to watch conference games. Though Colorado still is attracting eyeballs. Over 3 million for KSU/CU at 10:15PM ET is pretty darn good.
