FOOTBALL ***Iowa State vs. UCF game prediction thread (please read contest rules!)***

It's UCF week, so let's get rolling with those predictions for the game against the Knights.

1) Winner & margin of victory. (ex: Iowa State by six)
2) Total points scored. (ex: 52 points)
3) TIEBREAKER: How many passing yards will Iowa State finish with?

Number one will be the first determiner and then I'll take whoever gets closest to the total points. If needed, I'll go to the passing yards prediction to break a tie.

Contest winners will be rewarded as follows: first place (three free months added to your subscription); second place (two free months); third place (one free month).

Iowa State is currently a 13.5-point favorite and the over/under is 53.5 points.

***PLEASE NOTE***
YOU MUST HAVE A CURRENT SUBSCRIPTION TO BE ELIGIBLE TO WIN. THOSE WITH ACCOUNTS THAT HAVE BEEN 'CANCELED' OR THAT HAVE 'LAPSED' ARE INELIGIBLE.

Cowpokes at BYU

Anyone watching this?

OSU State benched Bowman at QB (finally). He's been awful.

BYU takes first drive straight down the field, 7-0. I'm thinking OSU has quit already, are they really going to start 0-4 in the B12 after being a Top 20 team??

But they showed heart....somehow up 21-14 at half. Ollie Gordon with 3 TDs. OSU backup starter got hurt, so Bowman is now in the game.

Would be great if OSU could hold on for the upset. If we wanna dream big, a BYU loss would certainly be helpful.

The Al Smith Dinner

I didn't intend to watch this last night, but ended up seeing most of it.

Just below and to the right of the podium was an African-American woman, and a Caucasian man wearing a green bow tie. Neither one hardly cracked a smile the entire evening or stood up for Trump's introduction. Anyone know who these two attendees might have been?

I had a weird dream

It was an Iowa State dream, so bear with me.

I don't think I've ever dreamt about football, but I did last night and it was a little weird. Iowa State was playing someone and a player who we had high hopes for because we'd been hearing what an athletic freak he was, was finally healthy and coming back from an injury. This was a big guy. Think Brent Curvey.

Anyway, this guy came onto the field and lined up as the center, with the QB under center. They lined up 10 yards back from the line of scrimmage, but everyone else was lined up in their normal places on the line of scrimmage, saving a gap for the center. The center hiked the ball, then ran straight up the field through the gap left for him in the line and continued running all the way to the end zone. The other team was so shocked they just stood there and nobody followed. The QB then reared back and let the ball fly as far as he could throw it. The center dove to catch it and it was called a TD.

I was in an office type setting when all this occurred and we got to discussing it and decided they line up this way so the center could be an eligible receiver. We started calling the play the center eligible play. I don't know if that would make the center an eligible receiver or not, but it's a dream and doesn't have to make sense.

Big opportunity tomorrow

ISU has a chance to significantly move up in the AP Poll after tomorrow...

First of all Iowa State needs to win! Then we need the following to happen:

#1 Texas (6-0) needs to beat #5 Georgia (5-1) at home - Texas is a 4 1/2 point favorite
Unranked Louisville (4-2) needs to beat #6 Miami (6-0) at home - Miami is a 5 point favorite
#11 Tennessee (5-1) needs to beat #7 Alabama (5-1) at home - Alabama is a 3 point favorite
Unranked Arkansas (4-2) needs to beat #8 LSU (5-1) at home - LSU is a 2 1/2 point favorite

If all this happens ISU looks to become the #5 or #6 ranked team in the polls. I expect we would be ranked #6 after one loss Tennessee jumps us in the polls. I really like dogs Louisville, Tennessee, and Arkansas to win outright tomorrow. The teams we need to win are all playing at home.

This brings me to a question for Cygarin:

What are the odds of all this happening?

Social Security

For any of you other old farts I reached my full retirement age 66 & 8 mo. Monday. I'm still working and will start collecting. We have a 15 year old freshman, an older in college, I like my job and am in good health. Plus my wife just turned 55 (not so subtle brag) and I'm making more these days. Anyway, a little known benefit is if you reach your FRA and start collecting, any high school age child you may have is elegible for 1/2 of your benefits until they reach the age of 18, even if you are still working. It can be 19 but you would have to show he is still a h.s. student. The SS Dept considers you retired once you start collecting at your FRA. It doesn't affect my benefits at all. So I have us both set up to receive our first payment the 2nd Wed of each month starting in November. They don't monitor it closely but his benefits have to be used for his needs, which can be schooling, car, clothes etc. They just don't want parents or guardians using it themselves.

I first learned about this at a seminar my wife and I attended. I applied with the local office via phone call. The lady was great, patient and helpful. She did mention she was going to ask if I had h. s. age childred, but not sure they all would. Some of you know this but I also remember if husband and wife are both working and reach FRA, one can start collecting the other's. I think there were some limitations such as the other's benefits freeze from growing each year but not sure.

Also I don't get all the talk about SS running out in the future. All they need to do is raise the income level that Social Security is taxed. Or instead of spending trillions on other countrie spend on those you took it from. Hope this last paragraph doesn't get this post moved to Politics.
