Former Cyclone just won a national championship

Grand View University with head coach Joe Woodley just wrapped up a perfect 14-0 season and won the NAIA title with a 35-7 win over Keiser (Fla.). Woodley played both fullback and linebacker for Dan McCarney in the early 2000s. This is Grand View's second national title and first since 2013 when Joe was an assistant under his dad Mike Woodley, who happened to be an assistant under Mac.

College Football TV Ratings

Do TV ratings spell doom for Iowa State and most Big 12 teams?

I have long argued that Iowa State's TV ratings are in large part determined by the network that broadcasts our games. But this year Iowa State had probably the best coverage they've ever had. Of the 12 regular season games, 5 were picked up by FOX, 1 by CBS, 1 by ABC, 1 by ESPN, 3 by FS1 and 1 by ESPN+. That's 7 of 12 on the major broadcast networks, plus one on the next best thing, ESPN. Only 1 was relegated to ESPN+. Also, the Big 12 championship game was picked up by ABC.

All of the broadcast games and the ESPN game exceeded 1 million viewers, with two of them exceeding 2 million. That's not bad and was right up there near the top of the Big 12. But it's nowhere near the kind of numbers the glamor teams from the SEC and Big Ten pull down. Seeing those numbers makes it easy to understand why ESPN/ABC/Disney would seek to manipulate college football to their advantage. The top 21 viewed college games prior to the CFP all involved and SEC or a Big Ten team, with the sole exception of the Army-Navy game. All exceeded 7.1 million viewers. All were carried on broadcast networks. The Army-Navy game had the advantage of not going head-to-head with other major college games.

Despite those great ratings, the playoff games did not fare well compared to the NFL. ABC kept the two games that did not go up against the NFL and gave the other two to TNT. Smart move. Texans-Chiefs averaged 15.5 million viewers on NBC, largely at the same time SMU-Penn State drew an audience of 6.4 million on TNT Sports. Fox got 15.4 million viewers for Steelers-Ravens, which coincided with Clemson-Texas (8.6 million viewers, TNT Sports). Here are the number for the playoff games. Note these games were aired on multiple stations under the primary carriers flag, sometimes with different features.
  • Ohio State 42, Tennessee 17: 14.3 million (8 p.m. Saturday, ABC/ESPN)
  • Notre Dame 27, Indiana 17: 13.4 million (8 p.m. Friday, ABC/ESPN)
  • Texas 38, Clemson 24: 8.6 million (noon Saturday, TNT Sports) vs NFL 15.4M
  • Penn State 38, SMU 10: 6.4 million (4 p.m. Saturday, TNT Sports) vs NFL 15.5M
I don't know what Iowa State needs to do to improve our viewer numbers and to make our brand more attractive to media, but I believe it starts with winning. All of the big brands have some history winning national championships. Iowa State can start by frequently winning the conference. Build on that by getting in the playoffs and winning a game or two. Maybe eventually win a championship and become a regular fixture. It's a tall order, but with Texas and Oklahoma gone from the Big 12, somebody may step up and fill that void. Why not us?

WSJ says Biden was mentally incapacitated starting on Day 1 of his presidency.

His entire presidency was a lie. Staff was running everything. They actually worked to keep Biden out of the loop. Many national security meetings were cancelled because Bien was just incapable of focusing. He was going to bed at 7PM at night. They did nothing but lie to all you democrats for 4 years. Sad part is most democrats actually bought their lies.

Ames Indoor Aquatic Center

If you haven't been to Ames in the last couple of weeks, you might be surprised at the big building going up across Lincoln Way from the DOT offices. The walls started going up on the new aquatic center. I don't recall what was in that lot before, but this tall facility will change the look when driving by that area.

FOOTBALL ***RELEASE: Three accept Senior Bowl invitations***

Iowa State Media Relations

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State seniors Jayden Higgins, Jaylin Noel and Darien Porter have officially accepted invitations to the Reese’s Senior Bowl, which will be held Feb. 1, 2025, in Mobile, Alabama. The game will be televised on NFL Network at 1:30 p.m. (CT).

Played annually since 1950, the Reese’s Senior Bowl is one of the nation’s best collegiate all-star games. This marks the second time in school history that ISU has had three players invited to the game (2021).

Higgins and Noel formed the nation’s best wide receiver duo this season, combining to make 159 receptions for 2,260 yards and 16 touchdowns. They are the only duo with both players eclipsing 1,000 receiving yards.

Higgins, a South Miami, Florida native, has 87 receptions for 1,183 yards and nine touchdowns, all of which rank second in single-season school history. Higgins was an All-Big 12 Second-Team selection and earned Associated Press Third-Team All-America accolades.

Noel, a Kansas City, Missouri native, finished with 72 receptions for 1,077 yards and seven touchdowns. Noel was Big 12 Co-Special Teams Player of the Year and the senior owns a streak of 45-straight games with a reception, the third-longest active streak nationally.

Porter is a true success story, switching from wide receiver to defensive back before his fourth season at Iowa State. The move paid off as Porter elevated himself to a starter this season and had three interceptions. In his career, the Bettendorf, Iowa native also excelled on special teams, blocking five kicks in his career (four punts, one field goal).

Trump to sue Des Moines Register.

Trump, fresh off his 15M judgment against ABC news, is going to sue the Des Moines Registrar. All about the worthless poll saying Kamala was going to win Iowa. It was a complete BS poll, intended to cause election interference, which it sort of did. That poll was so worthless, the lady had to retire before she got fired. My guess is the DMR will settle, just like ABC. There are plenty more suits to come, maybe hundreds more.

Nancy Pelosi falls in Luxemburg and breaks her hip!

She is now hospitalized. This is serious stuff, broken hips for elderly people usually are a death sentence. It may not kill you immediately, but it literally sucks the life out of you during recovery and wears you out.
Then we have Mitch McConnel falling and busting his face open, and he looks absolutely terrible.

We need term limits for this crap.
