Fan psyche: basketball vs football

There seems to be a big difference between basketball and football when it comes to fans thinking they know not only what should be done, but also why the coach isn't doing what the fan thinks should be done. For instance, the 3 point shooting by the Cyclones under TJ has been near the bottom in the conference but you don't hear fans saying TJ needs to run different actions to free up shooters or TJ is too stubborn to fix the 3 point deficiency. It's just understood that ISU has lacked consistently good 3 point shooters and it has to find other ways to win. Contrast that to the ISU football rushing attack. ISU under Matt Campbell has mostly been at or near the bottom in the conference in rushing per game. Obviously there has been a dearth of rushing success but fans think they know what plays should be ran to fix the problem and/or they also know why Matt isn't doing what the fans think...ie: stubborn, ignorant, etc... If you think you can call plays, put together a better game plan, etc... than the ISU staff then it follows that you believe you are a better coach than they are. If you are then ISU is grossly over paying the coaching staffs and how incompetent must the staffs be that ISU beats? You'll get no quarrel from me if you believe Matt & Co has mostly recruited & developed offensive lines that are below conference standards for run blocking. Pretty obvious he hasn't. Matt's on his third o-line coach so clearly he knows things had to change. Will that position group get better? Hopefully, because it has to be significantly better going forward. Like poor 3 point shooting is usually a function of talent deficiency, so is run blocking. ISU currently has players in the NFL at qb, rb, receiver, te, line backer, d line, & d back. Notice there are zero o linemen. Want Big 12 conference level rushing? Recruit & develop better o linemen. Same goes for TJ & 3 point shooting.
