Something I did not know

I make a habit of looking up track and field results for most of our RB, WR, DB, maybe even on occasion LB recruits, but I don't usually do TEs. I got curious because of the announcers in the Baylor game saying Brahmer has WR skills. So I looked up his track and field stats. Surprisingly, he ran sprints in high school, 100, 200 and some of the hurdle events. At 6-7, 250, he has a personal best of 11.44 in the 100 and 23.24 in the 200. That's picking them up and putting them down for such a big man. It would not surprise me, with that 100 meter time, if he ran a 4.5 40. Have we ever had a TE who ran a 4.5 40?

Scenario for you to ponder

You're down 10-7 heading into halftime and you haven't won a single conference game all year. You snag an interception near midfield with 10 seconds to go until halftime.

Do you:

(A) Run a double halfback reverse, have the QB sneak out of the backfield on a wheel route and have the halfback toss him the ball (or some equally exotic play)

(B) Run a hook and lateral and lateral and lateral, etc., to try to score before halftime.

(C) Toss a quick sideline pass downfield in the hopes of gaining enough yards to try a game-tying FG as time expires

(D) Hand off to the tailback and slink into the locker room with your tail tucked between your legs like the cowardly dog you are

If you chose D, then you're Scott Satterfield. I mean, what in the world did he have to lose by trying something there? Nothing. And he had everything to gain, chiefly, showing his team he believed in them enough to try to at least tie the game.

Cold games

I went to the Algona/Sioux Center game last night. I quickly found out it was a dumb thing for this old man to do. I left at halftime and went to my son's restaurant. I could not feel much of anything.

Algoa was ahead 21-14 at half and lost 28-21. They fumbled the ball to give up 2 touchdowns and had a pass intercepted that bounce of an open receivers hands and was returned to give a short field.

The game momentum turned with Algona up 21-7 and a receiver was blatantly interfered with (tackled) and the ball hit them while on the ground.

Manske looks like the real deal but his line is woeful. Should fit right in. Lol. Two Algona turnovers came right after half to put Sioux Center up. Sounds like everyone was frozen by the 4th quarter.

SC had a RB who was the difference. Really fast and quick.

FOOTBALL ***Iowa State @ Baylor game prediction thread (please read contest rules!)***

It's Baylor week, so let's get rolling with those predictions for the game against the Bears.

1) Winner & margin of victory. (ex: Iowa State by six)
2) Total points scored. (ex: 52 points)
3) TIEBREAKER: How many passing yards will Iowa State finish with?

Iowa State is currently a 1.5-point favorite and the over/under is 47.5 points.

Number one will be the first determiner and then I'll take whoever gets closest to the total points. If needed, I'll go to the passing yards prediction to break a tie.

Contest winners will be rewarded as follows: first place (three free months added to your subscription); second place (two free months); third place (one free month).
