Stinson Jr. scores 34 in season opener

Valley is ranked top 5 in preseason, playing a handful of sophs, including Stinson, Jr who scored 34 in blowout of Dowling Tues night. Valley will likely be the best team in the state after this season and the graduation of the Waukee/Northwest stars. Still don't think ISU has offered Stinson yet even though he did visit during football season. Of course Campbell did offer one of his soph Valley teammates at WR. I'm still baffled why TJ hasn't pulled the trigger.

Some Olympic Observations.

1.BYU is rapidly becoming a center for US distance running.
Obvious as Hell IF you are gonna kick with the Kenyans, etc. you have to train at altitude.
Their steeplechaser ran by the world medalists today. They had the look "Who is this guy??".
The prior Olympic champion did finally beat him.
But one impressive move.
Other BYU trainees have been doing well, too.

2.Anybody see Amit Elor when she won a Cedar falls boys' folkstyle tournanent at age 12??
At age 20 is something like 88-1 in international freestyle matches. (Women have no greco. No one would bet her at that either)
Her loss came 3-1 at age 17.
Has 7 world golds now.
Not sure I've been more impressed by ANY wrestler.
Most guys would have no chance against her. She is that good.

3. U.S. beach volleyball has went downhill. Gone already.

4. More later I'm sure.

FOOTBALL ***RELEASE: Cooper On Chuck Bednarik Award Watch List***

Iowa State Media Relations

AMES, Iowa - Preseason honors continue to roll in for Iowa State defensive back Jeremiah Cooper. The Cyclone junior has been named to the watch list for the Chuck Bednarik Award, presented annually to the most outstanding defensive player in college football.

Already a preseason All-Big 12 selection and member of the Lott IMPACT Trophy, Jim Thorpe Award and Nagurski Trophy watch lists, Cooper enters the 2024 season as one of the Big 12’s top safeties.

Cooper was second in the Big 12 and sixth nationally with five interceptions last season. He added 10 pass breakups to that number to rank fourth nationally in passes defended per game (1.4).

The El Paso, Texas native finished the season with 45 tackles, including 1.5 for a loss.

The Cyclones open the season August 31 against 2023 FCS Playoff qualifier North Dakota.

More Iowa Ag Manufacturers Laying Off Folks

Kinze is yet another in a series of layoffs hitting this industry. They are saying farmers are delaying equipment purchases as a result of higher costs to grow crops and raise livestock as well as lower prices at market.

My question is what is driving the lower market prices? Are we still recovering from playing hardball with China and losing a big market? Or is that now a part of history and it's something else?

(Note: I put this on the politics board, because I know that's where the discussion is likely to go. If I'm wrong, feel free to move it to the normal off-topic board.
