Pre-election vibes

Very strange, in some ways. Everybody seems to think the Republicans are going to kick ass. And by everyone, I include the Democrats, who appear to be in pure panic mode, as witness Biden's speech last night and the places they are spending money and sending big names.

But I dunno. Too many close races. Too much early voting. Too few trustworthy news sources.

Look at Iowa. Reynolds is probably a lock, but there isn't a single race for national office that the Democrats couldn't win.

I'm seeing coverage of Pennsylvania that shows Fetterman maintaining a lead, despite the fact it's clear he isn't capable of performing the duties of a U.S. senator; the Republicans screwed up here by not nominating somebody who actually lives in the state.

Lord knows what's going to happen in the Georgia senate race, except that there almost certainly will be a runoff, so we won't know until January -- again -- which party will control the Senate.

Maybe it's just my conditioning as an Iowa State fan, but I expect the worst. Hell, one of our best-ever football teams damned near lost to Drake.

Right on Cue. Tucker Carlson lies about Diesel

Says we are going to run out...LOL

Perfect example of the crap the right falls for. The guy completely lies to help Republicans win elections.

Gas industry professional called him out for his lies. Says we would only run out if we stopped producing diesel completely which is a ridiculous suggestion and a complete lie.

After 25 days and we don't run out...I'll wait for everyone on here to call him a liar.

Volleyball Venue

I've been following the Iowa state high school volleyball tournament this week....my granddaughter attends Ankeny Christian Academy and they pulled off a miraculous comeback last night to win the Class 1A title.

That volleyball venue in Coralville where the tournament is held now seems to be a bright, inviting and cozy atmosphere to play in. Looks to hold around 5,000 for volleyball.

There's been talk of a dedicated volleyball arena for our ISU women. Is something like this Xtreme Arena what we'd have in mind at ISU? Would it be large enough? Would it also serve as a venue for wrestling?

Seems like a facility like this wouldn't be TOO terribly expensive to build...in the grand scheme of things.

FOOTBALL RELEASE: Norton Tabbed Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Week

Iowa State Media Relations

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State running back Cartevious Norton has been named the Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the week, along with TCU linebacker Johnny Hodges, the league office announced Monday.

The freshman tailback had a career day with 69 yards on 18 attempts, both career bests, and two touchdowns against West Virginia. Norton grabbed a career-high four receptions for 18 yards, bringing his total to 87 yards from scrimmage in the game.

Norton scored his touchdowns on back-to-back positions as he helped Iowa State close out a 31-14 victory over the Mountaineers.

The Waycross, Georgia native was hampered by injuries early in the season but has seen his usage go up, setting a career high in rushing attempts in consecutive weeks.

This is Norton’s first Big 12 weekly honor.

Iowa State is back in action at Oklahoma State Saturday, kicking off at 2:30 p.m. (CST) on ESPNU.

The rest of the story ... or a did-you-know question?

Did you know that Wilbur and Orville Wright grew up, at least for a part of their lives, in Cedar Rapids? Seems their father, Milton Wright, was a former educator and preacher who lived in Cedar Rapids in 1878 when Wilbur and Orville were 11 and 7. It was in Cedar Rapids where their father, while on a business trip for his church, found a toy helicopter made of rubber bands, balsa wood and cork. He brought the toy home for his sons, who were fascinated by it. It is that toy that is said to have forever sparked their interest in flight. And now you know ... the rest of the story,

UNI chokes

UNI had No. 1 South Dakota tied up at 28 all and South Dakota missed what would have been a game winning FG as time expired, but UNI was penalized for "jumping," I think they said, to try to block the FG. that gave South Dakota another chance from 10 yards closer and they made this one with no time on the clock.

A Few Thoughts

Saw some good things.

Playing the 6th OL.
with both H-backs and the best blocking receiver (Wilson) , Often together.

Let us seal the edge and get to the outside.
The up the middle stuff is hard for us.

Threw it to Hanika some.
He's tall and fast.

Lots of freshmen getting PT.
The two on the DL were great today.
Best thing about freshmen is that they become sophomores.

We spanked a team that isn't as bad as we made them look.

A thing to remember about Dekkers??
He's looking better early in his career than Duggan did.
A million mistakes you have to make to get better.

Seems the pitch option suits him better than the zone read does.
I like the Eagles' triple option. Updated wishbone theory.
Dive, QB sweep , or short RPO pass instead of the pitch. Works great for them.
