Major props to TJ re: Transfers

I should say I want to give major props to TJ for everything, he has been incredible. I think he is actually improving as a game day coach right in front of our eyes.

But especially - I was thinking about the transfers he has brought in. Do we have any big ticket transfers from other P5 teams? No. Actually not one.

TJ has carved out a likely Top 20 team with a 16-4 record and near the top of the Big 12 with transfers from:

Buffalo (C. Jones)
Denver (R. Jones)
Eastern Kentucky (King)
VCU (Ward)
UNLV (Gilbert)
Wofford (Pav)

It takes an unbelievably sharp mind and game plan, as well as self-belief in what you want, to land SIX transfers from the mid-major or lower level (Wofford and E. Kentucky are low majors) and craft them together with your HS recruits and out of that brew, viola! Top tier Big 12 team as well as Top 20 in the country.

Think about that! Is there another P5 team that has this many mid-low major transfers that is having this kind of success? Just mind blowing. So far outside the box!!! Well done TJ!

Purdy and ISU connection

I’m in New Orleans this week and the SEC AD meetings are going on in my hotel.

Was on the the elevator with the SEC head legal guy. He was already on when I got on. He asked what floor I was going to. Floor 2 (floor with bar) was lit. I said floor 2 seems like the place to go. He said “Yep, that’s where the booze is”

I told him, “You’ll have bigger meetings with the 2 new members. I’m a Big 12 guy from Iowa State.” He immediately responded “I’m guessing you’ll be cheering for the 49er’s”

The connection in national awareness is instant.

I was rooting for Brock and San Fran, but with mixed feelings with David M. being such a great Cyclone.

So glad it was Gibbs that fumbled (that set up a touchdown for San Fran) and not our former ISU star.

Never once counted Brock and 49ers out because Purdy has always had the It Factor (we all seen it at ISU) that many other more physically gifted QBs in the league will never have. Purdy has an accurate arm with underrated athleticism that makes up for his size.....plus quick physical and mental reflex that can process opposing defense in milliseconds. Not saying he will ever be the next Tom Brady, but he has some of the same traits.
