FOOTBALL ***RELEASE: Clanton selected to attend AFCA's Under-35 Leadership Institute***

Iowa State Media Relations

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State assistant coach Ryan Clanton has been selected to participate in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) 2025 35 Under 35 Coaches Leadership Institute, held during the AFCA Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Clanton, who is in his second season with the Cyclones, currently serves as run game coordinator and offensive line coach. The Cyclones have reached back-to-back bowl games and recently recorded the first 10-win season in school history.

Cyclone offensive linemen Jarrod Hufford and Jalen Travis were All-Big 12 honorable mention honorees in Clanton’s second season in Ames.

Iowa State rushed for more yards (2,102) and touchdowns (24) in his second season than it did in 2023. ISU has allowed just 29 sacks in 25 games, among the top 10 nationally during the last two seasons.

The AFCA Under 35 Coaches Leadership Institute is a prestigious program aimed at identifying and developing premier future leaders in the football coaching profession. Selected participants are invited to attend the one-day institute that features a curriculum of interactive lectures focused on topics specifically tailored to emphasize leadership in the coaching profession, ethics, influential responsibilities, career progression, and family balance.

To be eligible, applicants were required to submit a resume, five references, and a 1,600-word article or 10-minute live instructional video on an offensive, defensive, special teams, or position-specific topic of the applicant’s choosing.

Big XII Conference Football Championship.

Well we had fun. The 3rd quarter kind of made my butt sag but otherwise, it was good. I thought that the Cyclone fans showed up in much greater quantity than ASU fans. I loved "Texas Live!" and hope that CyTown has a similar venue in a few years. The 730 mile drive home was taxing on Sunday but we survived.

We are thinking about Orlando and hoping for a better result on the scoreboard.

Go Cyclones!

How Did SMU and ASU Get So Good?

I worked at SMU and they have $$ behind them that NIL provides a funnel to get the players they want. I would imagine the same for ASU. When SMU was formally admitted to the ACC they raised $100 in the first week. I fear that as long as NIL is the wild, wild west, the Cyclones are going to have a tough time competing at the top level. I know we went 10-2. But I fear we caught lightning in a bottle. Will this year be the acception going forward?

Texas and the SEC

I know this has been mentioned on here but I just had to give it its own post. Texas couldn’t win a Big 12 championship but at least ends up with the best record in the SEC (regular season champs regardless of the championship game thing) and could win the trophy in next week’s CCG.

The talking heads couldn’t make enough excuses yesterday about how a former Big 12 team that couldn’t claim a lot of success in the Big 12 somehow holds the best record in the SEC in its first year in the conference
.
My favorite: [They’ve had to up their game with the move and got more focused with the better competition.

Yeah, sure that’s it. Idiots.

Question for those in Eastern Iowa

Are they doing a delayed Beggers' Night in Coralville?

Killing time until Cyclone Volleyball comes on ESPN+, and noticed the iowa women are playing, so I tuned in. I was curious to see what kind of crowd they have, what they look like not playing "ME" ball etc.

Is Jan Jensen wearing a "Karen" wig, or has her hairstyle always been that severe? I wonder how many managers she has terrorized in the greater IC metropolitan area?

I'm confused....

Not that me being confused is news to anyone who knows me.

But I always assumed that even with a win, that either ASU or ISU would get a playoff seed closer to 8-10 rather than a Top 4.

So I was shocked at ASU's #4.

Would ISU have gotten a seed just as high, with an impressive win?

I admit I don't follow this goofy new playoff procedure too much.

I preferred the old days when the winner of the Rose, Orange, Cotton or Sugar Bowl was declared the National Champ on January 2nd.
