Killer turn of events....

We are up 6, have all the momentum, win a fracas on the floor, get a big WV player ejected, both teams awarded 2 technical free throws.

We miss our two freebies, WV makes their two PLUS a 3-pointer next trip down the floor. Our 6 point lead that looked like we might stretch to 10 or 11 is suddenly down to 1 point. Instead, WV has US in a chokehold....new ballgame. Momentum over.

It also didn't help that it took the refs 90 minutes to sort our the technicals.....

Sad news of the death of a former Cyclone recruit

I remember covering Ryan as an Illinois HS recruit that Iowa State had pursued before he ended up signing with Rutgers. The Cyclones had him on campus for an unofficial visit in the summer of 2019 and later offered.

Now ACC has problems

Florida State AD now threatening to leave unless uneven revenue sharing is enacted. They say them and Clemson bring more to the table and deserve more. And there may be a way out for them. ESPN may have to sweeten the pot for those two schools , but this will start the blue bloods demanding more in the other conferences I believe. Having a conference of equals sounds good to me. I hope the Commish doesn’t screw it up. Now the Clemson AD is saying the same thing. ESPN helped create this mess, now they are trying to put their finger in the dike and keep FSU and Clemson from bolting.

Trice in Cleveland Paper

Is West Virginia a "must win"?

If we lose to West Virginia....

Losses at Baylor and in the B12 tourney would be expected at that point....we'd be underdogs in both games.

Now you'd be talking about us as "Team A":

Team A numbers:

17-14 overall
Lost 10 of last 12 games of the season
Finished on a 6 game losing streak
Won 2 road games in the entire season
Had 8 Quad 1 wins

I know we are in the Big 12. That fact has been carrying us the entire year. But we better thank God for the Quad 1 wins we got earlier this year, because without them, that is not the resume of an NCAA team. Maybe a first 4 team at very best.

I really think we need to win vs West Virginia or it's going to get very, very nerve wracking around here...

Osunniyi is our leading rebounder.

Averaging 4.1 rebounds per game.

Am I just from the old school, or does that seem pathetically low for the leading rebounder of a Big 12 team?

I know we are a decent rebounding team and our guards help make up for it as they (especially Grill and Lipsey) are good on the boards.

But 4.1 rebounds per game leading a team? Man, that just seems crazy low to me.

Stubbornness

It is always amazing to me that coaches are so stubborn not to see things are not working during a game and won’t adjust accordingly
Both fball and b-ball

We can’t score. Plain and simple. In our motion offense, guys aren’t even looking at the basket for the first 10+ seconds. Eyes only on who they are going to pass to in stead of looking of options to score

We dont start the offense by posting Osun on the block, dump it to him to either take his time to get a good shot or get defenders to sag and throw the ball back out. No pick and rolls with him.

We could be a lesser version of Tarks running rebels. Put in a combination of Ward ,Watson, King and full court Press press press. Let Osun protect the rim. Ton of length on the court and they can play above the rim. Create turnovers and attack the rim. We don’t get open shots in our set offense, so let’s go uptempo to create good looks.

We play into the hands of teams who press us. They don’t have to worry about protecting the rim since we never attack, we always pull up to run our offense. There are plenty of better looks if we would look to score when pressed than running our offense.

Not playing King, Ward, and Watson at all in the second half was odd. We were getting pounded with the guys he was using, why not change to a whole different approach? Make a team adjust. I would like an answer from TJ why they don’t play. Bad attitudes or etc ?
