EV batteries

I know this board is always so concerned about the environment when it comes to EV battery recycling so I thought I would post an article showing how easily it is being done and the reuse of the materials.

I also watched a video of this.

I guess we don't need to worry about this anymore. :)

Soccer vs Colorado State

The soccer team was in Colorado this afternoon to play Colorado State. Fall sports season is upon us. The match is available on ESPN+.

Iowa State wins 1-0

It appears the team is off to a good start, but after getting a lead in this one, it looked like they were trying to give it back. The winning goal was scored on a short penalty kick in the first half. Soccer is a weird game. It doesn't seem like all this playing should have gone for nothing and the game is decided on something like a penalty kick. I have a long way to go in my understanding of this sport. I do really enjoy watching the Cyclones on TV though. I enjoy it less in person, unless the weather is nice.

Ames Has Come Back To Life

Classes start Monday and it has Ames buzzing with activity. Lots of cars parked on the street and tons more crowding the streets. Pedestrians walking, running, on skateboards and scooters playing Frogger with traffic. Restaurants packed to the gills with long wait times.

Football parking looks to me ready, or at least close to it. Lots C & D are paved and lines are painted. I suspect only clean up remains. I'm ready for some football.

All that chaos yet there are smiles on all the faces. For many this is heading to a variety of outcomes on Saturday as many won't handle 801 Day as well as others. Another school year is about to begin. Welcome back students and neighbors.

Is It Wrong For A 71-Year Old To Enjoy This?

I'm not a big music listener these days. I just don't have time for it. This video was not on my radar but I came across it tonight. For some reason I was entertained. Or maybe the word is intriqued. One of the comments said it best: Sings like an angel. Screams like a demon.

The band is good and this gal has talent, whether you like this style or not. Maybe everybody but me has heard of her before.

A few stats about Big 12-14-16

Paraphrasing one of our own: "I may be wrong but" And, also it's about a week or two before our real FB news, so I looked up a few things.

We are currently the third largest stadium capacity: Behind #1 Texas, #2 OU.
In the future we will be the 10th largest in student population size: Behind CFU, ASU, AU, CU, UH, TT, CU, UU, BYU
In the future we will be the 2nd largest Stadium capacity: Only behind BYU by about 1,000 fans. Editorial: If we don't find about 1001 more seats then I will....."I don't know😖😡

Great TV Maps/realignment article

HERE is a great article if you like maps, college football, and TV ratings. It explains possible reasons why and how stuff is going down. All sorts of maps of college football interest.

One example is the DSM/Ames TV market. It's the 68th biggest TV market in America. But it is #43 in total number of households who have an interest in college football. And as another example, New York is the #1 TV market in America. But it is #10 in number of households with an interest in college football. (Atlanta TV Market has the most number of households in America with an interest in college football as the #6 TV market in America)

There is also a cool map of approximate conference layout from the late 70s/early 80s.

Pro Tips?

Good morning all. My wife and I are planning to come up for our first-ever Cyclone football game, on Sept 9th against the Hawkeyes. I hear it's a zoo, which is awesome and we can't wait!

As it's our first time, I'm seeking some wisdom from you veterans.

Best way to actually get to the stadium? Public busses?

How early would we have to be there to actually park at the stadium?

Any fun tailgates that would be welcoming of the Hawley's? Would love to meet some of you.

Any other tips?

Thanks so much,

Conrad's Dad

BY and games in Mexico

I never really understood why BY was pushing for football and basketball games in Mexico.

While watching the Texans preseason game they announced the first every Mexican College Football Showcase. A game between two Mexican university teams to be played in NRG stadium on September 8th.

It had never dawned on me that Mexican universities could be playing American football. Looks like they are so BY is on to something trying to get the Big 12 to be first in that market and possibly open up some additional international recruiting.

Rating the Position Groups

This is a hard job, after a couple positions.

Tops are the defensive backs. Both Corners and Safeties have veteran starters returning and promising youth to work in. They are #1. The bad thing? I can't identify a close #2 position group.

I am going to choose Defensive Line. The projected starters are very experienced but not returning starters. As is one projected reserve. And 2 have the ability to play inside or outside.

#3 and 4 I have to with RB and WR, either/or. RB is talented and some experience. I also hear good things about Higgins and there is some experience.

#5 is probably LB, with 1 returning starter and some experience.

OL, TE, & QB are totally new faces. I lump them together. We need a lot of young but talented players to step up. It will be interesting.
