Calford still in the rumors.

Supposedly Calford + SMU are close to being added to the ACC, for basically nothing. They are apparently willing to buy their way into the ACC, by accepting little to no shares for 7 years. SMU will play for FREE.

THen another rumor today that if Calford does not get into the ACC, that ESPN wants to find a way to squeeze them into the Big 12 again.

Personally I was thinking that if Calford figures out how to get the ACC, that ESPN and Fox might quietly try to work a deal to squeeze OSU and WSU into the Big 12, for 2 reasons, to stop any lawsuits that are coming from the left behinds, and to grab the assets of the PAC12.

FOOTBALL ***Iowa State vs. UNI game prediction thread***

It's UNI week, so let's get rolling with those predictions for the game against the Panthers.

1) Winner & margin of victory. (ex: Iowa State by six)
2) Total points scored. (ex: 52 points)

Number one will be the first determiner and then I'll take whoever gets closest to the total points.

Contest winners will be rewarded as follows: first place (three free months added to your subscription); second place (two free months); third place (one free month).

Got Mongolian pork chops on the stove

I was really supposed to grill these, but I don't have a place to grill or a grill, for that matter. This recipe is a spicy one. It has hot sauce and white pepper in the marinade and cayenne, hot mustard in the sauce that's served with it. The sauce has an egg yolk in it and you need to cook it over low heat to cook the egg. Also has sour cream, dejon mustard, cayenne, red wine vinegar and a dash of tumeric. Looking forward to trying it, but I don't think I'll ever make it again. Just to much prep work for my liking. Had to make the marinade the night before and the sauce while I was cooking the chops.

Cyclone Game Day at Mary Greeley!!!

I'm actually in Stratford, crashed at Mom's apartment last night. Been up for a bit with the usual level of anticipation that comes with the start of Cyclone Football's annual season arrival. It's early, but back in the days of The Short Bus tailgate gang, we would've tapped the keg by now.

Watched PCM vs. Pella Christian with mom last night. My nephew is the starting center at PCM. Disappointing 2OT loss for PCM, with some clock management issues near the end (4th and 11 in PC territory, up 7, pass attempt incomplete to stop the clock). PC won the OT toss and chose the end of the field they wanted (yeah...bad flashback). They threw a pick in the endzone. PCM ran to the 1 in 3 plays, FG attempt blocked on 4th down. Later, my sister texts me, PCM was short a player on the attempt.

I digress...or I would if I knew what "digress" meant.

Anyways, I'll be pregaming and watching from room 4017 with mom. I wish I could be there, especially when I'm so close. This is our first football fall since dad's passing in June, and as long-time season ticket holders, I know where I need to be: hitting on nurses...er...I mean, by my mom's side watching the Cyclones!

If any of you happen to be sticking around for Cyclone soccer tomorrow (free admission!), I'll be there in my Pauly85 Cyclone jersey...hitting on nurses!

GO CYCLONES and God Bless CyclONEnation!!!

Sorry for the rant...

Former Cyclone QB in action last night

Aidan Bouman got the start for South Dakota, an FCS-level program, in a 35-10 loss at Missouri. He put up pretty pedestrian numbers, completing 15-of-25 passes for 156 yards and one touchdown to no interceptions. I heard some pretty encouraging reports on him from a USD staff member who was in Ames for Iowa State's prospect camps this summer. It sounds like Bouman could end up being a multi-year starter there.

FOOTBALL ***The Ultimate Preview: Iowa State vs. UNI***

I've got the Cyclones winning but the Panthers covering. Once again, we'll see a pretty vanilla offense from the Cyclones, and with a new-look and much larger offensive line under Ryan Clanton, that might just be a recipe for success with a new starting quarterback at the controls. On the flip side, UNI's strength is with Theo Day at quarterback in the passing game, but the Cyclones are particularly strong in the secondary. Getting a pass rush will be a key and having linebackers that can defend the short passing game the Panthers are sure to roll out.

The one-score loss thing

A quick count of on-score games shows we were:
  • 2-11 in 2021 and 2022
  • From 17-22 we were 10-17
  • Thus, we were 8-6 from 2017-2020, basically batting 500
Note: thesewere added in my head and may be slightly off.

But clearly the last two years have been bad. Last year we were young. But 2021 we were not.

If we go 7-6 the last two years, [a reasonable expectation in 1 score games] we could have gone bowling at 6-6 last year and 10-2 in 2021.

A hair off indeed.

It must be corrected.
