Last Cyclone drive

On the last drive for Iowa State we had the ball first and goal at the five. Got called for illegal procedure (ref stepped away from the center with three seconds on the play clock). But we had first down at the ten

Then KU was called for defensive holding and the ref said the penety was half the distance and that itt was second down. Isn't defensive holding an automatic first down?

Maybe I just don't know the rules.

Man Crush Alert

Yep, they don't happen often, but when you love the game of football and a special player like Brock Purdy comes along and works his magic week in and out, it's hard not to develop one. Yesterday, the team struggled some and it needed a leader on the field who could lead in a way that only a handful of quarterbacks can.

I was out of town yesterday and was trying to to keep up with the game in the second half as I could. I knew BP was delivering another impressive second half performance, but I wasn't aware of his 2nd half numbers; 17 of 21 for 197 yards and two touchdowns including completing 18 of his last 19 passes and 11 in a row. And he ran in another TD. And then there's the whole leadership thing that he brings to the team.

This kid is so special in so many ways that I'm not sure any of us fully understands what he really means to the program and his team. I only hope he stays healthy and we can watch him another 2 years.

Friday, November 22

1963.

This date always rings a little more intently for me when it falls on Friday. In 1963 ISU was on the quarter system and Friday the 22nd was the last day of my first final exams.

I had a Math 110 final at 1:00 p.m. We had a small final cram session in Helser and left about 12:45 to walk to Beardshear. Some one yelled out a window that the President had been shot. We didn't really believe it and went forth.

By the time the test was over at 2:30, we knew something was amiss. But no one told us anything. When we left Beardshear the campus was literally stopped. People were in offices listening to radios, many in tears.

Outside, small groups were gathered around cars listening to the radio. That is how I found out what had happened. They cancelled the remaining tests. A day forever etched in my memory.

Do we under sell opponents?

We’ve all been to enough games to know better but I’ve seen comments about getting the reserves time today, etc.

No matter what, we should never take any opponents for granted and that goes for the coaches as well.

If you remember the KU game last year it was much closer than the score indicated. Thought they actually out played us for much of that game and they are much improved.

Purdy’s 2019 Season

So far this season Brock Purdy has:
Set the Single Season TD Passes record
Set the Single Season Passing Yards record
Set the Single Season Total Offense record
Set the Single Season Total TDs record
Set the Single Game Total Offense record
Tied the Single Game Passing TDs record
Tied the Single Game Total TDs record

Brock needs 7 more TDs to Tie the Career Total TDs record and 8 more Passing TDs to Tie the Career Passing TDs record.

*if the records found here are correct

Keep an eye on the desert tonight...

#6 Oregon at Arizona State
#7 Utah at Arizona

Oklahoma and the Big 12 should be rooting for chaos in the desert tonight. Currently 10-7 Arizona State at the half.

Penn State losing today bumps OU up a spot. If Oregon and Utah both lose before the Pac 12 title game OU will jump them as well. Georgia losing to LSU in the SEC title game would drop them below OU. Would basically be a non-SEC title game/no Tua Alabama team vs OU for the 4th playoff spot.
