6.5 years of Offense

Our staff has 6.5 years here. Some things we can say with pretty reasonable accuracy.
  • The staff has been good a developing adequate to real good QB play. (Kempt, Purdy). Dekkers is getting there.
  • Our line has been consistently average, decent at pass blocking, not so decent at run blocking.
  • The staff identifies RB talent. That talent (Montgomery, Hall) made the OLine look better than it was. Injuries prevent full evaluation of this years RBs, although durability is less than first 6 years. We will see.
  • TE evolved and has stepped back this year but no where near to where it was left by Rhoads.
  • WR is an enigma, for me. Lazard and Butler were very good but plagued by a few inopportune drops. Hutch is in that mold. Noel is moving there. What we have not had is raw speed in a receiver. And Jones and Milton couldn't stay healthy.
  • Turnovers have been higher than you would like in the passing game but ball security has been good in the non-qb running game. And we don't throw a high number of TD passes.
  • Not sure what any of this means, if anything.

Some thoughts - somewhat calmed down

First, bad calls and team mistakes do exist in the same game. And did, in this game.

Our redzone was the difference. They were 4-4, for 24 pts. We were 2-3 for 14 pts and a turnover.

That turnover and the follow up horrible roughing call ultimately decided the game.

A blocked punt and a missed FG was a Special Teams contribution to our failure. BUT, they returned the favor by also missing a FG and the worst punting game I can remember at Texas.

I actually thought OCTM called a good game given our horrible running game. We were in position for 17 more points but player turnovers, drops and a missed FG negated it.

We were awfully young in the secondary and at LB. Played hard, mostly well, but made mistakes.

I assume we use 2 in punt protection instead of 3 to get one more into coverage. Might want to reconsider that.

Texas has some stud running backs.

They also have offensive linemen who know how to hold.

Their DT'S are men.

Small World

Took the grandkids to a birthday party late yesterday afternoon in Dallas. Towards the end of the party a tall guy noticed my bride’s ISU shirt and said, “Tough game. We got screwed.” Turns out he was a receiver on Jared Barnett’s jr & sr high team. Still stays in touch with Jared & both follow the Cyclones. Both his kids go to my granddaughter’s preschool.

A Few Thoughts

I'm not of the mind to read all of your astute observations.
I'm sure these have been mentioned.

1. Why do I watch these games ?????
I'm fine with us losing if it is a fair fate.

2. RG3 and Mark Jones were unlistenable.
I usually put up with the TV guys.
Couldn't today.

3. Should we just forfeit when that ref crew shows up???
We know a nut crushing loss is coming.
Just make it two -zip and move on.

4. Does some kid need to die on the field for them to call the hits that can actually damage kids???
Dekkers was DEFENSELESS.(Brings in a whole list of additional criteria.)
He was headed to the turf with no control of his own.
The second defender comes in with MALICIOUS INTENT.
IF that ain't targeting, then let them play with knives and sharp objects. Would be less dangerous.

5. Once again a Campbell team won't quit.
Seeing the inner Paul Rhoads come out of CMC is a new phenomenon.
Not a good one. Tells the story of how bad we are getting F'd.

6. Can't get the stink of Texas out of this league fast enough.
May be the last time I watch us play them.
Who needs that Sh*t.

7. Better offensive game plan.
Get Dekkers moving,
Use more guys.
Reason for hope.

8. We have a run counter motion with Rus in position for the pitch.
Everybody knows we won't.
Get another back in that position.

9. Someone needs to make Bevo into ground round.

10. More as my rage develops further.

OSU Stat

While watching a game tonight on ESPN, the ribbon across the bottom of the screen tells us that today’s Cowboy loss was the first time since 2011 when leading by 17+ points.

Gosh, I wonder who that opponent was ??

👍👍 😎

I am watching the ECU/Memphis game and Joe Scates just caught a long pass over the shoulder for about 30 yards. Forgot that he transferred. My son attends ECU and is a 39 year old freshman. Spent 20 years in the Army and decided to get some education after his career in the military.
