Rotation Thoughts

The last three games have seen a very different rotation pattern from before. Mostly, I think, because we didn't have enough guards to play the 4 guard lineup. In reality, we likely didn't since Grill's injury. Jaz's big game maybe fooled us a bit, but our scoring has had difficult stretches since Caleb's injury.

With everyone healthy, physically and mentally, we seldom had no one hot or semi-hot. Now, we are 3 guard, one who is not a shooter, and have little rotation depth. Our best combo yesterday, in my opinion, was Holmes, Kalscheur, Watson, King, and Ward. Not because of offense, but it seemed to be the most defensive energy.

We will go as far as Kalscheur and Holmes can take us. Jaz is adding nothing right now, but in his defense, we are not doing much, if anything, to set him up to do anything. Sure wish we had a top-notch offensive player. It is a bit like having the WR that demands man and a half or even double coverage. Makes everyone else better.

CTJ's voice

Anyone else worry about TJs voice problems? I'm old enough to remember Maury Johns. Wasn't it lung or throat cancer that got to him? TJ sounded terrible in the postgame presser. Never sounds good. No wonder he never gets on the refs, he isn't able to yell loud enough for them to hear him. I've been a Cyclone fan long enough that I easily imagine terrible things happening when it seems we are on th way to becoming great.

BASKETBALL ***Iowa State vs. Kansas Game Thread***

Going to get this one started early! The Cyclones and Jayhawks tip off around 6 p.m. tonight inside the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City in the Big 12 Tournament semifinal round. The game will be carried on ESPN with Jon Sciambi and Fran Fraschilla calling the action. I'll be posting periodic updates from my seat in the 900 level (aka media press box) in the thread below.

Net Ranking observations today.

First, ISU is #4 in the country in Q1 wins behind KU, UT, and BU. That is domination by the Big 12.

Fran said yesterday that ISU now has the most wins in the country against the Top 25, which is amazing.

ISU jumped from 20 to 17, which is effectively the first 5 seed. Since the committee actually has ISU above its net ranking in the earlier release of its selections, I have to believe now that is still true, and thus I believe ISU is no worse than a 4 seed right now. KSU due to their loss has moved from ahead of ISU to several spots below ISU. So did West Virginia. If Houston and KU are both 1 seeds and Houston is first, then the MW goes to Houston and KU to another region. This would mean ISU is limited to only 3 region choices, and the MW is still in play!

Iowa has dropped to #40 only 2 spots ahead of Oklahoma State, who is a last team in right now. The # 40 spot works out to a 10th seed, but Iowa was normally slightly ahead of their net ranking on most brackets, so I am thinking that they will be slightly better than a 10 seed, but this puts them on the dreaded 8-9 line.

Rumor on Big 12 basketball expansion.

How would you all feel about Gonzaga, Villanova, UConn, and St. Johns joining the conference in all sports except football? Put out there by MHVER, which could be very suspect. Yormark wants the Big markets with name teams, and believes that Basketball will be a major contract in the future for the league. I agree with him.

If the league expands this much, I think the league will need a domed stadium to hold all the fans for the league tourney, not sure the KC site could hold enough fans with this many teams involved.
