Update on my dad...

...and thanks Bill for letting me keep these here. I generally avoid the OT board.

I think this time, because they knew the UTI history, they got on it faster and he's not having the mental "confusion" issues as last time. Doing better today; it's relative, given he's 80 and he's shrinking daily.

It's a matter of time, just don't know the length. His sister from Illinois was able to be here yesterday, shed 85 or so. Both were afraid they weren't going to have one last goodbye; yesterday they did. It got pretty emotional, to say the least.

I appreciate all you guys/ gals posts yesterday. Thanks for everything!

Length in BB

Length is talked about a lot in Basketball. Most look at height. The secondary factor is reach, arm length. We lose three starter/rotation guys who were long - Osun, Kunc, Kalscheur. And 2 who were not short but average in the long factors in Holmes and Grill, Holmes being kind of in between.

We have not replaced Osun. Gilbert, Jones, and Hamilton are longer than Kalscheur and Holmes. Paveletzke appears longer than Grill. Billiew and Momcilovic appear as long as Kunc. Fish, I am not sure. He is long as a 3 but not long as a 4.

For height geeks, we are:
6-10 BRE; 6-9 Ward, 6-8 Billiew; 6-8 Momcilovic; 6-8 King; 6-7 Watson; 6-6 Fish; 6-6 Hamilton; 6-5 Jones; 6-4 Gilbert; 6-4 Williams; 6-3 Paveletzke; 6-1 Lipsey.

***RELEASE: Iowa State Announces Women’s Gymnastics Program Leadership Change***

Iowa State Media Relations

Ames, Iowa – Iowa State University Senior Associate Athletics Director Dr. Calli Sanders announced today a head coaching change for the Cyclone women’s gymnastics program, which has been guided by Jay Ronayne since 2006.

“We are grateful for Coach Ronayne’s dedication and commitment to our women’s gymnastics program over the last 17 years, and wish him well in his future endeavors,” Sanders said.

The Cyclones finished the 2023 season 8-10 overall, last at the Big 12 Championship and missed an NCAA Regional bid for only the second time since the 1996-97 season (excluding the 2019-20 season impacted by COVID-19).

Ronayne, who registered a 145-197-5 record during his Iowa State tenure, coached Cyclone student-athletes to 11 Big 12 Conference individual titles, six NCAA Gymnastics Championships individual event specialist qualifications, eight All-America honors, two Big 12 Gymnast of the Year awards, three Big 12 Newcomer of the Year honors and one Big 12 Event Specialist of the Year.

A national search for Ronayne’s successor will begin immediately, Sanders said.

Tailgating and bags of ice costs.....

So the Auctioneer calls me yesterday and happily warns me that he is going to have to start charging me for the Ultras I drink at his tailgate.
It seems he bought bags of ice somewhere yesterday and was charged $7.80 per bag. That price really hit home with him evidently.
I told him to campaign for free ice machines in the RV lots.
I also told him not to expect me to pay him for any beer, as I can just steal some cold Ultras from Psyclone...😇🤣

New approach mbb 2023-24?

For better or worse, we are going to have a vastly different MBB team next year. And not just because there are 6-7 new bodies. The age of those bodies is a biggie. Last year, we had one of the oldest rotations in college basketball, with 22, 23, and 24 year old men sprinkled with Lipsey and, occasionally, Watson.

Next year, in addition to Lipsey and Watson, we are adding Paveletzke and 4 incoming Freshmen as true freshmen and sophomores. Gilbert is a true junior, so 20-21 years old. Williams is a RS junior, so older as are Hasan, BRE, and Tre.

On paper, we are better shooters. Will we be better scorers?

I would guess we won't start as tough defensively. But for those that think Lipsey is in danger of losing his PG spot, he is the one proven perimeter defender.

Very interesting to see how TJ puts this team together. On paper, it appears that they can play faster and deeper. But can they really? And, if they can, is it even in TJ's DNA?

And will they go shooter, a big, or long 3 type for the remaining position?
