FOOTBALL Media availability for Wednesday afternoon

Being made available to us tomorrow around Noon are: Offensive coordinator Nate Scheelhaase and defensive coordinator Jon Heacock. The players to follow include: Eli Sanders. Cartevious Norton, Tyler Miller and Jayden Higgins on offense, then Tyler Onyedim, Domonique Orange, Myles Purchase and Jeremiah Cooper on defense. Good to see the constraints are being lifted. I should have some more good football-related content for you starting tomorrow afternoon and carrying through the next week.

Another involved in gambling investigation leaves program

Isaiah Lee...gone.

Here's the updated defensive pipeline, post-Lee.

Barry Tramel: Which Big 12 Team Has The Toughest Schedule?

Thamel: Here’s what I did. I took the Big 12 preseason media poll. Rather than go straight 1-14, I looked at the voting, and anyone with close vote totals, I split the difference.

In other words, Texas was picked No. 1 over Kansas State, in a very tight race. So I considered UT and KSU each 1½. For third place, OU, Texas Tech and TCU were bunched together. I made them three-way ties for fourth. Baylor sixth, then OSU, Central Florida and Kansas a three-way tie for eighth; Iowa State and Brigham Young a two-way tie for 10th; Cincinnati and Houston a two-way tie for 12th; and West Virginia 14th.

The obvious flaw is the betting scandal at Iowa State, which appears to be costing the Cyclones four starters, including quarterback Hunter Dekkers. Any team playing Iowa State is getting a lesser opponent than projected, but it’s not like the Cyclones were gangbusters anyway.

1. Iowa State: The Cyclones could be headed for a miserable season. Iowa State misses Houston and West Virginia, who might be the two worst teams in the league, plus Texas Tech and Central Florida. Plus, Iowa State gets only four home games.

Dontrell Holt

The Springfield News-Leader had an article this morning naming their preseason Dominant Dozen. SW Missouri’s top HS football players going into this season.

Here is what the wrote about ISU OL recruit Dontrell Holt:

“Dontrell Holt, Joplin

A first-team All-Ozarks lineman, Holt should continue to be one of the best in the area before he heads off next year to play at Iowa State. He’s bigger than everyone else and he keeps his quarterback clean. His offense is going to have weapons all around him, an experienced quarterback and one of the best running backs in the state — and somehow, he’s going to be the one most defenders fear the most.”

Question for anyone familiar with Edgewood Road in CR.

Apparently a couple weeks ago their was a news story about continuing Edgewood Road north of Blairs Ferry Road. Anyone know how they plan on squeezing this road through the housing areas north of Blairs Ferry? They are planning on running Edgewood road all the way to County Home Road. I knew it was supposed to connect with the new Tower Terrace Road, but did not realize all the way to County Home Road. Looked it up on Google and Edgewood Road already exists now from Tower Terrace to County Home Road (surprise to me). The only stretch to build is from Blairs Ferry to Tower Terrace. How the heck will they get it squeezed through, tons of housing.

Oh, I also see there is a 2.7M house in Toddville that looks insane. Anyone have a clue that lives in this house? Linn County Castle

FOOTBALL ***RELEASE: Tampa on Chuck Bednarik Award Watch List***

Iowa State Media Relations

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State senior defensive back has landed on the Chuck Bednarik Award Watch List, given annually to the outstanding defensive player in college football.

Tampa started all 12 games last season and tallied 40 tackles, including five stops for a loss. He intercepted his first pass against Oklahoma State and finished the season with a team-high nine pass breakups, which tied for fourth most in the Big 12 Conference.

The St. Petersburg, Florida, native is a preseason All-Big 12 pick by the league’s coaches and is also on the Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List. He earned All-Big 12 Second Team honors in 2022.

Pro Football Focus ranks Tampa as the highest graded returning cornerback in the Big 12 Conference.

New Big XII scheduling

For scheduling purposes only... This seems like the easiest way to make sure people play each other frequently, preserve rivalries and cut down on travel.

We would still have a single division where the top two teams meet in Dallas to play the championship game. Works for basketball too.

NetFlix new and bingeworthy...

#1 with a bullet is The Days... DocuDrama (sorry no nudity or sexual tension) about the Fukushima plant throughout the event. It is RIVETING and very much as intense as the Chernobyl series.

#2 Pine Gap series about joint US / AUS intel gathering facility. More Drama than Docu but it is an engaging thriller WITH Ausie boobage and buttage.

#3 The Citidel - a rousing spy series starring one of the dead guys from GoT (if that narrows it down). LOTS of action and some of the acting is completely horrific BUT there are MAJOR plot twists in every episode which can only go so far.... You can only get fluffed so many times before well they way I remember it is.... Mind wandered...

Good Read -- Gets me fired up!

Says much about the EIU rivalry. You bet they loved beating us 15 in a row. Thank you D-Mac!

“It was one of the most embarrassing losses I have ever been a part of,” McCarney said. “Iowa hung over 60 on us. It was a mismatch. It was ugly. (Iowa) Coach (Hayden) Fry came up to me after the game and said ‘we didn’t mean to run the score up on you. My quarterback called an audible on that last touchdown pass.’ No, he didn’t. I knew that. I knew the game. I knew what was going on. There is nothing you can do about it except bow your neck and put yourself in a position to never let that happen again.”

Iowa Gambling

Heard on a local sports talk show that two of Iowa’s gambling guys were still practicing….Jack Johnson and Noah Shannon. Of course, they also went out of their way to say the there was no way Kirk could have known about any of this and was shocked, shocked I say, to learn about it. I didn’t hear them say the same things about CMC. But the real question is whether anybody believes that the only two guys of their gambling crew that are still on the team are decent players who could see playing time? I think Shannon was honorable mention All Tiny Ten?

And, by contrast, to the west, we have multiple likely starters who aren’t being allowed to practice because there needs to be a message sent. Food for thought on a Saturday morning 3 weeks out from the first games.

Disclaimer: The info about the Iowa guys practicing came from local radio people who very often don’t know sh$t.
