The author C.J. Box. A recommendation to read his works.

Stumbled across one of his "Joe Pickett" books in a local "little free library" a few months back.
I am hooked. There are 24 books (so far) in the Joe Pickett series. Basically, a mystery murder series of books.
"Joe" is a game warden in Wyoming , some describe as a "Dudley Do right" who repeatedly stumbles across crime scenes or gets mixed up in bureaucratic red tape with his superiors in Government, the FBI, and his local Sheriff dept.
He has a hot wife, who makes 4 times what he does, and they have 3 daughters who live with them in a State-owned house in a game warden district in northern Wyoming.
C. J. Box does an excellent job of in his novels of incorporating and mentioning and describing many places thru out Wyoming, South Dakota, and Montana that I have been too many times myself.
Some of the books have held my interest more so than others, but that is the way it goes with any book series, imo.
Have read 8 of the 24 books so far. They are in order, so I suggest a start with Book number 1, "Open Season".
There was a 2-year series on Paramount+ about the exploits of "Joe Pickett", but I have not watched any of those, as I hear they vary dramatically from the books.

FOOTBALL ***RELEASE: Easton Dean Invited To Tennessee Titans Rookie Minicamp***

Iowa State Media Relations

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State’s Easton Dean has been invited to the Tennessee Titans’ Rookie Minicamp.

Dean, an Oswego, Kansas, native, came to Iowa State as a three-star quarterback recruit before switching to tight end.

Identity Alert Question

I received notice that my SS Number may have been compromised. The alert states, "We found a match to your Social Security Number on the dark web. While this information doesn't necessarily mean you are a victim of identity theft, you may be at risk."

This is from ProtectMyID, of which I have membership via AAA.

Diving in further, ProtectMyID suggests I set up a Fraud Alert with Experian. By doing this, I need to give a lot of personal information, including my SS #, of which I'm hesitant to do.

I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts or experience with this, and/or any suggestions of someone I should talk to (thinking of asking my bank if they have any suggestions).

Thank you in advance.

Are we about to blow up (knock on wood)?

I'm a Cyclone fan, so I know what happens when we start getting stars in the eyes, thinking we're going to have a special season. But is this the year the stars align? We have a young football team that went to a bowl game last year and return nearly 90 percent of that production on both sides of the ball.

We return our top 4 scorers in basketball and add several more pieces in an area of need, the interior. Most prognosticators have us ranked in the top 5 in the country and one even has us at No. 1.

In women's basketball, prognosticators have us in the top 10 and we have one of the most dynamic post players in the country entering her sophomore year in Audi Crooks and another soph who is not far behind in Brown. Plus we return our leader, Emily Ryan and add some sharpshooters on the perimeter in the Marquette and TCU transfers, both of whom hit around 40 percent of their threes last year.

I'm probably playing with fire here, but the way I see it, we have three chances for this to be our year, a year for a championship, any kind of championship, a year Charlie Brown actually gets to kick the ball. How many other years could we say that?

FOOTBALL ***RELEASE: Ben Nikkel Signs With Washington Commanders***

Iowa State Media Relations

Defensive back Ben Nikkel, a former walk-on, has signed with the Washington Commanders. He wowed teams with an impressive performance at Big 12 Pro Day in Frisco, Texas at the end of March. The McPherson, Kansas, native, started his playing career as a wide receiver at McPherson College before coming to Iowa State as a walk-on in 2021.

After redshirting his initial season, Nikkel switched over from the offensive side of the ball to the defensive backfield and saw action in all 12 games as a special teams standout in 2022.

Prior to the 2023 season, ISU head coach Matt Campbell awarded Nikkel with a scholarship and his value to the program was recognized by his teammates, who voted him a co-captain. He finished the 2024 season with 40 tackles and was second on the team with eight special teams stops. He also scooped up a blocked punt against TCU.

Nikkel played in 24 career games and making 43 tackles.

I'm glad I was finally able to do something with the great interview I did with Kayden on the NCAA Tournament trail last month.

Should republicans bring charges against Obama, Clinton, and Biden?

The SCOTUS is evaluating immunity, and if for some strange reason they say he does not have immunity, then ALL presidents will face prosecution 100 % of the time. Obama murdered American citizens with drone strikes, Biden has committed child trafficking (ie, teenage girl illegal aliens dropped at the Des Moines airport in the middle of the night to be picked up by unknown organizations). So do democrats really want to go down this path? How stupid are they?

The sham of the Trump hush money trial.

What a bunch of crock the Dems are pushing. Here are some facts that Dems want to ignore:

Stormy Daniels has put it in writing that there was NEVER an affair with Trump.

Stormy Daniels currently owes Trump more than 670K in judgements against her. That's right, she owes HIM.

She obviously makes a good witness for the Dems. Reality is never important to a liberal.

Shocked…not

This is the same court system that “convicted” Trump of rape and is trying him now on federal charges. Tell me again about how there’s no justice for them and and a different one for us.

Dem Lawyer Julian Epstein comments on Bragg's case against Trump

This guys is a Dem partisan...so this is shocking. Almost as shocking is the NYTimes editorial today calling Bragg's case an "Historic mistake". This thing truly is a Soviet style show trial...rigged judge, rigged jury pool, rigged DA. This kind of travesty should never happen in our nation...luckily most of the country is seeing quite clearly what this mess is.

JULIAN EPSTEIN: This is an outrageous case. It's an embarrassment to the legal system that this case is being brought. The notion, the theory that we heard on Monday from the prosecution, that this is about election interference because the Trump campaign was trying to suppress bad stories. Suppressing bad stories is not election interference. Everyone does it. Nondisclosure agreements are perfectly legal. If suppressing bad news were election interference, then what would one say about the Biden campaign in 2020 that actively used all of its resources to suppress the Hunter Biden laptop case? I mean, that had much more serious implications in terms of the election than the alleged affair with Donald Trump in 2016. You know, everything falls apart, Brian. I mean, the idea that this was election interference, the conduct, the election occurred in November of 2016. The conduct in question here, namely, the recordkeeping, and the failure to disclose this, if there was any obligation as a campaign contribution, all occurred in 2017.

Watching the 2015 big 12 tournament title game again ...

... and it's remarkable how many future NBA players were on the floor and only two of them were from Kansas. We had Bryce Dejean-Jones, Monte Morris, Georges Niang, Abdel Nader, Matt Thomas and Naz Long, who all played at one time or another in the NBA. Jameel Mckay also appeared in some NBA summer league games for the Pelicans. Kansas only had Frank Mason, who had a cup of coffee in the NBA, playing in 102 games for Sacramento, Milwaukee and Orlando, and Kelly Oubre, who still plays with the 76ers. Perry Ellis was never drafted, but caught on with the Mavericks for the Summer League, but was waived, then was waived by the Hornets.
