A look at Arkansas State

I was reading a story on another site about our opening opponent, North Dakota, and it got me curious about our other non-traditional, nonconference foe this year, Arkansas State. It seems their team almost mirrors ours in some respects.

The Red Wolves finished last season with a 6-7 record, including a 2-point loss to Northern Illinois in the Camellia Bowl. They return 10 starters on offense, and, according to their 2024 spring prospectus, 6 starters on defense. However, I've since found out that one of their defensive returners has transferred to Auburn. He was a DE, who led the team in tackles for loss and was second in sacks. He must have transferred after the spring game for him to be on the spring prospectus. That means they lost both DEs, both CBs and two out of three LBs on defense. They are woefully undersized along the DL as their two tackles are 5-11, 273 and 6-1, 288. They also have a 6-2, 270 senior, but the other three DTs listed on the roster are all redshirt freshmen. They do have a 300 pounder coming in as a true freshman, but he was just a 2-star with a 5.4 RR.

The reason I say they mirror us to some extent is on offense, where their QB, Jaylen Raynor, was a true freshman last year and was On3's true freshman all-American. He threw for 2,550 yards and 17 TDs last year, completing passes at a 58 percent clip. He also ran for 373 yards and 5 more scores. They return four of the five OLs, where they are massive, averaging about 320 among the four of them. Raynor returns his two top WRs and only loses his third leading WR from last year and the TE also returns. The top two RBs also return.

We should be able to dominate, but these early season games always seem to include way too much pucker factor for my liking.

Gilbert

I was a little dumbfounded watching him at the Orlando tourney. I said I was going to really struggle being a fan if that was his game, every game. Thank goodness it wasn't. He is both my son's favorite. One thing I have noticed throughout the season is what it all seems to mean to him. We as fans have had a bunch of players we have fallen for or took to, but have we ever had a transfer player that took to us the way Keshon has? I'm all in on the guy now, that's for sure.

Flooding: NW IA

NW Iowa got hammered Thursday and Friday into Saturday morning. Rock Valley is pretty much cut off and they are pulling people out of homes in boats. South Spencer is flooded and the Facebook videos of Arnold's Park ar unbelievable.

We missed the heavy stuff by 20 miles but the Des Moines River East Fork watershed got up to 6 inches in spots and the river has gone crazy here. I have never seen summer flooding like this. Spring, after a big snow melt, yes. Things had pretty much dried out last week, but we are floating boats again up here in the flatlands.

My sump pump attest to a full ground table. When it finally shuts off, it probably won't rain for weeks. Nothing is normal anymore. More rain forecast for Tuesday, but only a 40% chance, whatever that means.

Sound familiar?

From U of A libraries
On March 28, 1944, Roosevelt received a complete physical including a cardiac examination. Dr. Howard G. Bruenn handled this. Bruenn’s diagnosis was that the President was suffering from “hypertension, hypertensive heart disease, cardiac failure (left ventricle), and acute bronchitis.

Democratic leaders could see Roosevelt’s health was in decline and worried that he would not survive a fourth term. Worse, many had serious doubts about the abilities of Vice President Henry Wallace, who was seen by some as either overly idealistic or dangerously radical. In the end, Harry Truman replaced Wallace on the ticket, although not before a lively fight for the nomination. Roosevelt himself accepted his re-nomination in a radio address to the convention.

However, he was photographed at an unfortunate angle and this picture indicated to many that the President was a sick man. Roosevelt retained enough energy to launch a fiery campaign. In New York, he rode through the streets on a rainy day, stopping at a garage to be given brandy and dry clothes. That November, he was re-elected to his fourth term.

In April of 1945, Dr. Bruenn accompanied Roosevelt to his Warm Springs retreat. The President’s health had been in decline since March. Bruenn thought he was seeing some signs of progress, but then, on April 12, the President suffered a massive stroke. Bruenn tried to revive him, without success. Just hours after the stroke, Roosevelt was dead.

Mother of girl murdered by illegals…must read.

ALEXIS NUNGARAY: I want the nation, all around the world, to understand that she was a child. She was my child, she was my first born. She was a pre-teen that was slowly becoming this beautiful, beautiful young lady. And she was going so far. She had admiration of dreams
and aspiring goals that she wanted to do in life. She was going to make it. She was going. She was going to do things.

And these men, these illegal men, took that opportunity from my daughter, from our family of watching her become this amazing person.

So now with her voice being ripped away from her, I am going to be her voice and stand strong and try to make a difference in this world because this has got to stop. We have to stop burying our kids. This is not right. We have to have more reinforcement when it comes to letting people in. This is not OK.

So how will Iowa gaming commission stop Cedar Rapids Casino this time?

The 2 year moratorium on new casinos ends this week. So how will the state gaming commission screw over CR this time? They have been screwing over CR since gambling started in this state. The problem is that they have casinos around CR (roughly 50 miles in any direction), and the casinos all get customers from CR/IC. So the second largest metro area in the state is not allowed to have a casino, just so they can keep casinos in the rural part of the state going. They put casinos in the wrong parts of the state.
