Covering Game Now on CBS Sports HQ Spotlight Show

Hosted by Chris Hassel, talking to sideline reporter Jenny Dell from the game, at 4:22 pm.

Hardly any game discussion, showed field goal, how hard it was for Hawkeyes to show their face at work today.

Went on to talk about Brock/Kittle on MNF tonight, “…possibly the two schools’ teams’ most famous alums…,” possible Cy-Hawk bet.

Talked about The Wave.

I’m also listening to KXNO talk radio this afternoon for the first time in more than five years, and now I remember why.

House settlement on hold

Somewhat disappointing but not totally unsurprising news. I think the booster/not booster distinction is silly but I think limits on true NIL is important. If it goes to trial, gives life to the super-league idea involving most of the P4 as I could see the NCAA going under financially. Judge clearly not in favor of the notion of college sports.

Lookinbback - and ahead

Before the game, it was assumed the only positions whare we had an advantage were QB and WR. Some felt we had the advantage at safety but others were less convinced give Nwangpu's 5-star reputation.

After the game and reviewing the replay, not so much. The difference at QB and WR was huge, but other positions were certainly breaking ISU's way. I feel our DBs are significantly better than theirs, the TE's were a push, the Oline was a push [they were better in run blocking and we were superior in pass blocking], and the Dline was harder to Guage. Our DL seemed to get more pressure on the QB but that may have been because of the marked difference in quality of the QBs.

Iowa had a better RB [I would love a 225 lb RB with speed] and markedly better Linebackers, even with major improvement in our LB play from week 1. The physical difference was not great at all, in totality. Just at LB and RB, and that was countered by QB and WR.

Mouse got outcoached early. Going away from under center on the original series was (hopefully) a rooky mistake. Good news is he adjusted quickly and got his feet under him. We had 340 yards the last 3 quarters. We were more inconsistent, but we will not see a defense that salty for awhile.

FOOTBALL ***RELEASE: Konrardy’s Field Goal Named Pop-Tarts Crazy Good Play of the Week***

Iowa State Media Relations

AMES, Iowa – Kyle Konrardy’s game-winning 54-yard field goal against No. 21 Iowa has been named the Pop-Tarts Crazy Good Play of the Week.

Now in its second season, the award celebrates incredible athleticism, awe-inspiring strategy, and jaw-dropping “did you see that?” moments from across the college football landscape each week.

A redshirt freshman walk-on kicker from Dubuque, Konrardy nailed a 54-yard field goal with six seconds remaining to cap a 20-19 comeback win at Iowa. The Cyclones trailed 13-0 at the half and 19-7 with 4:47 left in the third quarter. Konrardy, who missed a 41-yard attempt on the first half's final play, was instrumental in the comeback, adding a 46-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter.

Konrardy, who attempted the first three field goals of his career on Saturday, is raising money for Count the Kicks, a life-saving stillbirth prevention campaign of the nonprofit organization Healthy Birth Day, Inc. Count the Kicks teaches expecting parents about the importance of tracking their baby's movements (and kicks!).

To celebrate the honor, Konrardy and the Cyclones will receive a care package of Pop-Tarts toaster pastries.

Iowa State is off with a bye this weekend but returns to Jack Trice Stadium against Arkansas State on Sept. 21 at 1 p.m.

The hox fan from last years game...

So I get a text last night from that arrogantly stupid hox fan that paid me $4k for my game tix last year.
It reads: "If we would have had another minute on the clock, we would have won".......
My reply: "You were up by two TD's and then managed to lose. The best team won. Deal with it. Btw, 'arsehole', next year's ticket prices just got higher!"
He hasn't replied.......

Question about official’s clock management during & after Konrardy 54 yd. FG.

Check the click at the start of the play—at 9 seconds. Once the ball went thru the uprights & the officials raised their arms, the clock stopped exactly at 5 seconds. KK kicks

Didn’t the click get adjusted before the resultant kickoff by adding time? What was that all about? I also have questions about when the clock started as Iowa received the kickoff. Wonder if someone on the Hawk staff was slow on the trigger in managing the clock at that time.

Took time this a.m. to check out Hawk fan comments on their Rivals site & was, for the most part, very encouraged by what I read.

Here are two posts that grabbed my attention:

- While I was disappointed that Iowa’s D allowed ISU to get field position for a FG in the final drive, I 100% agree that Iowa’s failure to reach the end zone with two golden opportunities of 1st and goal inside the 10 cost the Hawks victory. There was bad execution on a couple of big ISU plays but I won’t blame the defense for the loss

I believe it is likely that this game - 20 points - will be ISU’s lowest scoring game of the season. The main problem is this: Iowa wasn’t able to score more than 19 points at home against a depleted State defense.

- For those who know, that 75-yard TD pass reminded me of Rocky 4 when Rocky cut the Russian guy’s face. Up until then, most thought our D was invincible until ISU delivered a blow out of nowhere and we couldn’t recover.

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State kicker Kyle Konrardy has been named the Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

The redshirt freshman from Dubuque, Iowa connected on two crucial field goals in the fourth quarter in a 20-19 come-from-behind victory at No. 21 Iowa on Saturday. His biggest kick was a game-winning 54-yarder with six seconds remaining to give Iowa State its second consecutive victory inside Kinnick Stadium.

The Cyclones trailed 13-0 at the half and 19-7 with 4:47 left in the third quarter. Konrardy, who had no field goal attempts in Week 1 against North Dakota and missed a 41-yard attempt on the first half's final play against Iowa, was instrumental in the comeback against the Hawkeyes, adding a 46-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter.

Konrardy’s 54-yard field goal tied Grant Mahoney (2009) for longest field goal by a Cyclone against Iowa.

Iowa State is off with a bye this weekend but returns to Jack Trice Stadium against Arkansas State on Sept. 21 at 1 p.m.
