Iowa State QB Hunter Dekkers accused of betting on ISU sports, including football

(Edited) The Story County Attorney has filed a criminal complaint against Dekkers, charging him with record tampering related to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation’s probe into sports gambling.

He is accused of placing 26 wagers on ISU sporting events, including the 2021 football game against Oklahoma State when he was a sophomore backup quarterback, the Register reported, filed in Iowa District Court for Story County. Dekkers did not play in that game.

The complaint alleges the DraftKings account he controlled controlled completed approximately 366 mobile/online sports wagers totaling more than $2,799.

He faces permanent loss of eligibility under NCAA guidelines that prohibit athletes from wagering on their own games or other sports at their own schools.

Sports Betting

It looks like a few players screwed the pooch. They were just plain stupid and inconsiderate of their teammates. I cannot believe they didn’t know it was wrong. And there is no way the coaches would have known it was happening. So comments about the culture are meaningless in my opinion.
My hope is that the team will pull together and do their talking on the field. For me, as a fan, plan to just move on. There isn’t anything I can do other than to continue to support my Cyclones.

LOYAL FOREVER TRUE

Daughter's wedding

Saturday was my youngest daughter's wedding. Her and her husband are both Iowa State grads and big Cyclone fans. At the end of the father/daughter dance she said to me to just wait because I have something else. They broke into Sweet Caroline with people filling the dance floor singing along. It was awesome, especially knowing there were Hawk fans cringing.

Scheduling the new look Big12?

With the likely demise of the PAC and the 4 corners joining, how to schedule it?

Pods don’t work as the conference isn’t segmented into nice 4 school geographic groups - somebody would get a bad deal. However, 16 works great for 3 annual FB games and 3 home and home BB games.

Here is my stab at it, trying to give all schools something.

ISU: KU, KSU, WVU
KU: KSU, ISU, Cincy
KSU: KU, ISU, BYU

OSU: Colo, BU, TCU
TT: Az, UH, BU
TCU: BU, OSU, UH
BU: TCU, OSU, TT
UH: TT, TCU, UCF

BYU: UT, AZ, KSU
UT: BYU, Colo, ASU
Colo: OSU, ASU, UT
ASU: AZ, Colo, UT
AZ: ASU, BYU, TT

WVU: Cincy, UCF, ISU
Cincy: WVU, UCF, KU
UCF: Cincy, WVU, UH

Not perfect (would love OSU or Colo instead of WVU) but I think the TexOk 5 want at least 2 Texas FB games each year - everyone else will at least get one home and one away Tx game in FB.

***RELEASE: Pollard statement on gambling investigation***

Iowa State Media Relations

“Since becoming aware of potential NCAA eligibility issues related to sports wagering by several of our student-athletes in May, Iowa State University has been actively working to address these issues with the involved student-athletes. This process is ongoing and will take time before being completely resolved.

Iowa State cannot comment on any student-athletes’ circumstance or eligibility status. We will, however, continue to support our student-athletes as our compliance staff works with the NCAA to sort out questions surrounding their future eligibility for intercollegiate athletics competition.

“Iowa State Athletics educates its student-athletes, coaches and staff on NCAA rules and State of Iowa law surrounding sports wagering and will continue to emphasize the importance of understanding and adhering to these regulations moving forward.”

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State sophomore punter Tyler Perkins has earned a spot on the Ray Guy Award Watch List. The award is annually given to the nation’s top punter.

Perkins, a Norwalk, Ohio, native, earned Second Team Freshman All-America honors from The Athletic last season after serving as the Cyclones starting punter.

He averaged 42.2 yards per punt, the fourth-best freshman average in school history. Perkins was fifth in the Big 12 Conference in punting average.

Of his 50 punts, 19 were downed inside the 20 and nine traveled 50 or more yards.

Check your credit card statements!!!!!

Had a $9,000 Costco bill recently (not TOO outrageous sometimes). Thought nothing of it but my wife was (luckily) curious. She dug out the statement and found where I'd been charged 3 separate times by the Holiday Inn in Urbandale with the Bennigans with the big one being $7,000 and change. I stayed 1 night but asked the front desk IF I stayed another night, could you put me up? They said sure and DID starting back in JUNE w/out telling ME!

Called them and they immediately reversed all charges AND they were going to talk to their front desk person.
