For those that believe there is life out in the universe.

Just want to drop the famous Drake equation here:
{\displaystyle N=R_{*}\cdot f_{\mathrm {p} }\cdot n_{\mathrm {e} }\cdot f_{\mathrm {l} }\cdot f_{\mathrm {i} }\cdot f_{\mathrm {c} }\cdot L}

when I was much younger I used to think that life had to exist out in the universe just because small number in this equation still give a huge answer. But recently it was pointed out to me that if just ONE of the variables is 0, then the answer is 0. So what are the odds that at least one if not more of the variables is 0, actually pretty good. If just one variable is 0, the rest of these variables no longer matter. Sorry to burst anyone's bubble.

Future of streaming college football

It’s interesting to get out the Crystal ball sometimes. I think the big conferences combined with streaming may kill the golden goose. Passionate fans may sign up for Paramount plus for Big 10 games and the Big 10 network stream, but the casual fan won’t. Same for Big 12 fans and ESPN Plus (where a lot of our games will be) And Pac fans with Apple plus. I personally won’t sign up for services other than Iowa State games just to watch Iowa hopefully lose. So where this all goes? Shrinking audience in general and that means less money. At the end of the day it’s not about market size or what conferences a team is in, it’s how many watch and is it the right demographic for advertisers to sell their wares to. Others thoughts?

Letter from Jamie Pollard on Supporting We Will Collective

Hey all, didn't see this posted, so wanted to share the email JP sent out to all season ticket holders and Cyclone Club donors. Very appreciative of he and the entire AD's collaboration in this new era of college athletics. Appreciate your support!

Dear Cyclone Fans,

On behalf of our student-athletes, coaches, and staff, thank you for your support of our athletics program. Your continued generosity to the Cyclone Club helps provide the necessary resources to allow our student-athletes to pursue their academic and athletic dreams at Iowa State University.

The intercollegiate athletics landscape is undergoing dramatic and rapid change. We must identify and implement creative new ideas and solutions for our athletics program to thrive during challenging times.

While Cyclone Club donations, which fund scholarships, facilities, and operations, will continue to be our department’s number one fundraising priority, it is also critical that we bolster our student-athlete’s ability to activate their Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) opportunities. We are able to do that through the support generated by the We Will Collective.

With the start of another school year just around the corner, the We Will Collective invites all Iowa State fans to participate in a three-week kickoff challenge that runs through September 7. An anonymous donor has generously agreed to match every dollar raised by the We Will Collective, up to $200,000 during this period. The goal is to provide $400,000 of support during this challenge, which will make a substantial impact on the lives of our student-athletes, as well as local charities in our community.

Under the leadership of Executive Director Brent Blum, the We Will Collective has successfully partnered with more than 30 non-profit organizations in our community since its inception. Cyclone student-athletes have helped Make-A-Wish generate over $200,000, facilitated basketball camps throughout the state, including in areas historically underserved in youth sports, fed community members through Food at First, volunteered with Special Olympics and became ambassadors for Central Iowa’s YSS, to name just a few.

NIL opportunities, which allow student-athletes to be paid in exchange for work such as autographs, appearances, promotions, and camps, are an increasingly important part of the recruiting and retention process for our coaches. We deeply appreciate Brent’s leadership in providing these opportunities for Cyclone student-athletes through the We Will Collective.

In addition to the We Will Collective, Iowa State Athletics has collaborated with the Ivy College of Business and Advance NIL on a series of educational sessions available to all Cyclone student-athletes. We have also worked with CAMPUS-INK and INFLUXER to provide co-branded ISU merchandise opportunities for all Cyclone student-athletes and created the Cyclone Exchange through INFLCR to connect local businesses and student-athletes in the NIL space.

Cyclone legends such as Georges Niang, Charlie Kolar, Tyrese Haliburton and Allen Lazard have already jumped in on the challenge to support current student-athletes. It is my sincere hope you will join them by donating to the We Will Collective Challenge today!

Interesting Purdy tidbit

I just learned something about Purdy's recruitment that I don't recall ever being mentioned before. Apparently, on his visit to Alabama, he was less than impressed with Saban. Saban sat down with him and immediately started picking apart his game. Saban said (paraphrasing here), "You're short, your arm strength is ehhh, and your accuracy is average."

After hearing the last part especially, Purdy was convinced that Saban didn't know who he was and that he had never watched his film. Purdy always prided himself on his accuracy. He thought it was the best weapon in his arsenal, but Saban called it average.

He went back to his high school coach after the visit and discussed the conversation with his coach and shortly after that, announced his commitment to Iowa State. So thank you, Saban, for not doing your homework because, after all, this is just a lowly three star recruit you've been forced to talk to.

Cyclone Hard Knocks

Will McDonald IV highlighted on Episode 2 of the Hard Knocks series on the NY Jets. His play on the field is getting noticed by the coaches and opposing linemen. One OL from the Carolina Panthers asked Will where he played football and he (obviously) replied “Iowa State.” Nice to see him doing well and his connection to the Cyclones. AL and BH need some exposure on future episodes, IMO. We’ll see.

CFN ranks ISU schedule #3 toughest in country.

SIAP.

ISU Schedule is toughest in Big 12 and #3 toughest in country. Toughest Schedules.

Iowa on the other hand has the #58 schedule (LOL). In fact 12 big 12 teams have schedules tougher than Iowa, and only 2 Big 12 teams are just behind Iowa on schedule strength, Baylor and UCF. What a condemnation of the Big 10, to be ranked that weak overall.

Rabies Shots

anyone know much about them. Wife and I were walking on the edge of town last night and were on the road when a medium sized long haired black dog was barking at us. One dog was in the fenced area but this one wasn't. as we walk past it runs up the embankment and bites my wife in the thigh. He was aggressive and wouldn't leave until I yelled and started kicking at him. I'm pissed that I had my pepper spray gun zipped up in the backpack. She panicked as it's her 3rd dog attack in her life. Didn't think too much until blood started seeping through her leggings. We were probably 2 miles from home and luckily a couple we knew drove past right after it happened. They offered to take us home but had their two boxers in the car which didn't help my wife's anxiety. Went to urgent care and got a tetanus shot. They reported to Animal Control who called the Sgt Bluff police department. Officer went and talked to the family and came to our house to file a report. Said the lady at the house said both their dogs were in the fence and they didn't put either back in and there was no way the dog could get back in if it got out. We thought, sure. So the officer went back and sent us picks of their two dogs. Nope wasn't either one. We figure it was a stray or a neighbor's dog. If they can't track it down she will have to start rabies shots tonight. Damn.

***EverLoved fund me page for family of Dedric Willoughby***

I heard of a fundraising page that's been set up for the daughters of Dedric and thought I'd pass along the information...

BACKGROUND:
With the sudden passing of the girl's father, the financial responsibility will be primarily on the shoulders of their mother. It was their father's plan to afford his kids a college education and give them the tools for a successful future. Thank you for your consideration, continued support, and prayers for the Willoughby family.
