Geez, these Illinois fans are confident

Overly so, if you ask me. They even thought the opening spread would favor them somehow. I wonder if they know we're ranked No. 4 in the country. Gee, the No. 10 team in the country favored over the No. 4 team at a neutral site. That would be ... unusual. I hope their team is overlooking us like these guys seem to be. I mean, I admire sticking up for your team, but let's be realistic. They act like they're going to romp.

March Madness Referees

Based on over 60 years of playing and watching, it seems that the game has gotten so fast/physical that the referees cannot keep up with the speed and toughness of play! Have noticed in the Men's and Women's tournament a lot of late whistles and inconsistent calls (calls when there should be no call). Noticed the coaches' (and players) reactions to these many calls (throwing their hands in the air but no saying too much). Does no one want to referee these days! Coaches' actions seem to say, "it is what it is and we have to put up with it...it's all we've got so we better not say too much".

Just watched American Underdog again

The thing that bugged me about that movie the first time I saw it was the guy they got to play Kurt Warner. Zachary Levi was 42 years old when he made that movie and he's trying to play a college football player. I thought it was unbelievable then and even more unbelievable the second time around, especially after realizing that he also was the lead in Shazam, quite possibly the worst movie franchise ever. If you can get past that obvious flaw in the movie, it's really a good watch. Here's my blatant and obvious attempt to have this post stay on the main board: Terry Allen, who coached Warner at UNI and was a former ISU assistant and father of Iowa State TE Chase Allen, was played by Adam Baldwin. I never realized that the first time I watched it.

Basketball recruiting oddity

I was just looking at the incoming classes for every Big 12 team, including the new additions, and found something kind of weird. Cincinnati has two recruits in the class, both forwards, both 6-8, both weighing 210, both 4 stars and both named Tyler. Just thought it was weird and worth a mention. One other oddity I found. Oklahoma State's sole recruit in the class is named Jeremiah Johnson.

UCLA Coach Cronin on Tourney & ISU

Thought this was interesting. Mick Cronin on Cowherd this afternoon. He says "metrics" point to UConn & AZ as both are in the top ten in both offensive and defensive efficiency.

BUT he goes on to say the team he's seen ("eye test") with great guard play, "really good guard play" is the Cyclones! He says we don't have a great offense but it's good enough. And we have "a couple of big guys" so we've got ten fouls to give. He says we can frustrate teams because they can't practice the way we play. We don't turn it over. We do "all the things" that give us a chance.

We are a problem because we are hard to score against, we're tough and experienced.

A lot of teams want don't want to "slow dance" and against us you have to be able to handle a 65-60 game.

It was an interesting interview and the minute he mentioned "guard play" I knew we were coming!

The above is based on my hours-old memory but I think I'm really close. I'm sure you can find in on the podcast if interested.

GO CYCLONES 🏀

Edit: The teamrankings.com site has the Cyclones #48 in offensive efficiency and IL #5. We are #2 in defensive efficiency and IL is #148.
