Common sense

Glad to see that it still exists in some places. Feminists and true supporters of women’s rights should be celebrating this as it protects biological women (actual women) from having to compete against men. Bravo NAIA

Tennis over Houston 5-2

With five tennis players, it is extremely difficult to win at team tennis. For those that don't understand the team scoring, there are six singles matches following three doubles matches.

The doubles matches are for one team point. You need to win at least two of the three matches for the point. Each doubles match is just one set. With ISU having to forfeit one match, it requires winning both of the others for the team point. We did just that today to take a 1-0 lead going into the singles matches.

There are six singles matches with each counting for a team point. You need to win two sets in a single match to win the point. If you split the first two sets, it goes to the third to break the tie. With only five competitors, ISU forfeits a singles point right away.

So the team score was 1-1 at the start of the singles matches. Much better than our typical 0-2 score to dig out of. ISU won three of the singles matches with Houston taking one plus the forfeit. The third ISU singles victory clinched the fourth point which usually ends the meet, although they do occasionally play out the remaining matches.

ISU was leading in the third set of the unfinished match 6-5. As I was typing this post that unfinished match did finish with ISU taking that point also with a 7-5 third set score. So ISU wins 5-2.

I'd appreciate if someone can tell me the rules or guidelines they use to determine when they play out the unfinished matches once a team victory is assured with 4 team points. It seemed to me that generally would happen early in the non-conference season, but not at this point in the season. It must be by mutual agreement.

Shades of the Heidi game.....

I suspect everybody on this board knows about the Heidi game (Jets vs Raiders November '68).

CBS did something similar last night. They had a special, highly touted program, live coverage of a Billy Joel concert in MSG making his 100th consecutive sellout concert there. Everything started about half an hour late because the Masters ran long, which would have been irritating, but only that. However, late in the concert, some CBS genius decided to cut away from the concert for a newsprogram. They did it in the middle of "Piano Man."

So Libs, what happens when the Ukraine runs of out men?

The average age in the Ukraine Army is approaching 50. This is a war of attrition, and Russia has way more men left. So when the Ukraine runs out of men for their army, does that mean NATO and American men go to fight? The Ukraine is NOT our friends, they are not part of NATO, and they are worth absolutely NOTHING to me. It is a 2 bit dictatorship that has bribed the hell of of the Biden family. The Ukraine is going to lose unless Biden takes this to WWIII. You all willing to die for this cause?

Preview: William Kyle's Official Visits

Kyle's comments on his forthcoming official visits. He was suppose to visit K-State this past weekend but will reschedule the visit.
Kyle makes some very nice comments about the Cyclones but also favorable comments for the other schools.

I like our chances. I think the Freddies will be our biggest challenge. Hoping NIL $$$ does not play a dominant factor.

FOOTBALL RECRUITING ***More visitors headed to Ames for 4/12-4/13 overnight visits***

This will be the final round of overnight visits this spring, as the Cyclones will be hosting a trio of 2025 recruits. Here's a closer look at who will be in town.

Login to view embedded media Iowa State helped get this 2025 Minnesota offensive lineman's recruitment started with an offer back in November of last year. Since then, the Shakopee (Minn.) junior has added offers from Cincinnati, Kansas, Kansas State, Minnesota, Northwestern, and Purdue. This will be the third unofficial visit to Ames for Boyd, who was also in town for a junior day earlier this year and a game during the 2023 regular season.

The 6-foot-1, 170-pound athlete has an offer from the Cyclones, California, Miami (Fla.), Oregon State, San Diego State, and Washington State. This past season, the 6-foot-1, 170-pound junior recorded 41 tackles, three tackles-for-loss, six interceptions, and 13 pass breakups. He also caught 34 passes for 374 yards and six touchdowns. He's likely to end up on the defensive side of the ball in Ames.

Liberty High School. This past season, the 6-foot-3, 260-pound defensive lineman recorded 52 tackles, two tackles, and 5.5 sacks. In addition to Iowa State, Branston has offers from Arizona State, Boston College, and Washington State. The Arizona standout will be visiting Ames for the first time.

A long 2026 power forward has been no stranger to Iowa State's campus growing up, as he has family in the area. St. Louis (Mo.) John Burroughs standout Sheek Pearson will be visiting ISU for the third time in four months as a guest of the Cyclone coaching staff. The 6-foot-10 sophomore already has offers from Iowa State, Missouri, and Saint Louis.

Iowa State hoodie (update)

I ordered an Iowa State hoodie and hat online. I had no idea it was coming from China. Usually, when I try to buy something online from a foreign country, my bank freezes my card and doesn't allow the transaction, so the retailer for this purchase must have been in the U.S. for the transaction to go through. It took a month to get to me. It's made out of a strange material, not fleece. It almost feels like a rain slicker, but is still cloth. It's black and has a big red XII on the right sleeve, Iowa State Cyclones across the back in white letters, Iowa State, the Istate logo and Iowa State University Cyclones Basketball all in white lettering on the left breast. But the oddest thing about it is it's a left-hand zipper and it's very difficult to zip up. It wants to ride up the left side and leave the right side zip behind. I've never had a left hand zipper on anything. Also, my hat never came with it. Feeling like I got fleeced (pun intended) on this deal. It was $119 for the total package.
