What is the difference between Sep and Oct?

Any theories as to why CMC teams start so slow out of the chute but then dominate in October? And how does CMC take the next step by improving Sep play without negatively affecting the results in Oct? I’m curious what the experts out there think.

Side note: I assume OU will be pressuring the B12 to play us in Sep or Nov from now on.
