I will preface this by saying that I tend to think we need to play nine players, rather than eight. I say this given how hard we play on defense, the length of the season, the tough Big 12, the fact that we (unlike several conferences) do not play a couple conference games pre-Christmas to allow for a "bye" after January 1, and the fact that we tend to go deep in the Big 12 tourney.
With that said, I fully admit that this is not a perfect science, I do trust TJ, and I think there are legitimate arguments to play eight.
(If we did play nine [or even ten], we could still go down to eight during the NCAA tourney.)
With this introduction, I looked at eight other schools:
FWIW.

With this introduction, I looked at eight other schools:
- Michigan State (won the Big 10) played ten, which is a bit unusual.
- St. John's (won the Big East) played nine.
- Houston (won the Big 12) played eight.
- Auburn (won the SEC) played eight.
- Duke (won the ACC) played eight .
- Alabama, Tennessee and Florida go with near ten guys.
- Iowa State played eight.
FWIW.
