The Goal

I’ve come down a bit from being overly upset yesterday. I still feel we got solidly jobbed and I’m not happy about that, but it is what it is.

The ultimate goal is to win a NC. Final Four is a great first step, but it’d suck to make it that far only to make it that far. All this seeding does is change where we’d likely have to beat UConn. Instead of beating them in Phoenix, now we have to beat them in their backyard.

That said, if we can go 1-0 we will be favored in every next round up until we ultimately face UConn, assuming they make it that far too. If we can beat them, we are very likely the favorite in Phoenix in the next two games.

So ultimately, all I am saying is, we need to win six games no matter what. There’s a chance we’d be favored in five of the six. We’re one upset and five true-to-favorite wins away. Go Cyclones!

Also...so AP and Coaches polls mean nothing

Ok... throwing out the quad 1 wins Iowa State had (especially #1 seed tar-heals and I mean heals with less quad wins, some quad 2 losses in an inferior conference) and playing in the best basketball conference, why have top 25 polls?

You cannot tell me that we are the #8 2 seed after we were rated #8 in the AP and just dismantled the #1 rated team in the nation (as of last night). Any other time when 3 teams above Iowa State in the top 10 lose to lower end seeds in their conference and Iowa State wins Big against #1....we stay at #8 in the AP. We would have been rated at least 3 or 4 in the country. Again..not unexpected in the corrupt NCAA.

ESPN just said a little while ago that U Conn got hosed for having Iowa State in their bracket. Questioned why Iowa State was the #8 2 seed.

From Big 12 Seeding to the Nude Beach?

With the caveat I'm not 100% sure of how the multiple team tiebreakers work, I worked out the current tiebreaker (as I figured it) between Iowa State, Baylor and West Virginia, all currently tied for forth.

We are 2-1 against that group. Baylor is 2-1. West Virginia is 1-3. So if that eliminates West Virginia, Iowa State would win the head-to-head against Baylor based on our win over them in our only meeting. That would put us as the fourth seed if Kansas State maintains their grip on third with a win. That assumes all three of the teams tied for fourth win their final game, all home games against lower seeded teams.

If Baylor faulters and we end up in a tiebreaker with West Virginia, I believe we lose that head-to-head matchup based on their win over Oklahoma.

If Kansas State loses their final game at Texas Tech and drops into a tie with the three six loss teams, it seems our sweep of them would only help us. I believe in that scenario we would finish as the three seed. That would be huge because it pushes us in the opposite bracket as Oklahoma. Although they may not be that much harder than Texas on the other side of the bracket.
I am trusting you on this.
Trying to figure it out for myself made my headspin like I had wandered into happy hour at a nude female only beach!

Fran's call of the game

Did anyone else think, especially in the 2nd half when ISU was running away with the game, that Fran seemed to be making excuses for Houston more than crediting ISU? I'm not saying I expected him to be biased towards the Cyclones. But it felt more like a random talking head than someone who was familiar with and deeply knowledgeable of both teams.

I'm not a guy who normally is seeing announcer bias in someone being objective. And, I'm not saying he wasn't objective. But I came away thinking he saw the outcome as all about Houston's injuries rather than Iowa State's stellar play.

More ammunition against the haters

Not certain I’ve seen this posted elsewhere. Good stuff to throw back at the doubters and Hawkeyes.
