Ames Game watch?

Question for those in the area... My daughter, a senior in high school out here in the Philadelphia area, is visiting Ames this weekend (of all weekends!)

Of course many people will be over in Omaha, but she will be in Ames on Saturday and then doing a tour of the school on Monday. If we do beat South Dakota State and play on Saturday, where would be the place for my daughter and my wife to go watch the game?

Does Hilton ever open up for something like that?

MBB recruits

I was just looking at our 2024 recruiting class and comparing it to Ioway's. The difference in the number and quality of offers between the two classes is just astounding. Ioway has one kid who only has one other offer ... from Akron. Their other kid, Koch is his last name (and no, he's not related to the UNI Koch brothers that I could find), has some more decent offers, but nothing like our two recruits. Long live McCaffrey.

Transfer portal opens tomorrow--NCAA coaches will be spread thin, and teams opting out of NIT

I can't imagine what these coaches have to go through. TJ and every other coach preparing for the NCAA's also have to deal with the reality that the transfer portal opens tomorrow.

St. John's, Pittsburgh, Oklahoma, Memphis. Mississippi and Indiana all opted out of the NIT, some think due to the portal opening. How fair is that to their kids who want to play some more basketball?

Don't get the timing with the portal opening up tomorrow.

Expectations

In years past when we’ve made it to the NCAA tournament I have usually hoped to at least win our 1st game to prove that we belonged. I am torn now as to what to expect. I still worry about our 1st game simply because it’s easy to overlook an opponent like SDS. I really could get use to a couple blow out wins this 1st weekend. Here’s to hoping our Defense travels well.

You think Bilas was bad....

The CBS Experts have completely pissed all over ISU. Almost all of them have us losing to Illinois and one of them even picking a loss to Washington State. No respect at all. They might as well give UCONN the trophy now. Why even play?

Iowa State Media Relations

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State sophomore Tamin Lipsey has added another award to his resume, with this one being the biggest yet: All-American.

The Associated Press has selected Lipsey to their honorable mention team. Lipsey is the first Cyclone to earn All-American honors since Marial Shayok in 2019 and the first Cyclone to earn AP All-America honors since Georges Niang in 2016.

The awards have been rolling in for Lipsey, who was selected to the Big 12 Championship All-Tournament team this past weekend after leading the Cyclones to their sixth Big 12 Championship. He was also named a semifinalist for the 2024 Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Presented by AXIA Time last week and named a NABC First Team All-District selection.

Lipsey has been stuffing the stat sheet all season, averaging 12.3 points, 4.9 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 2.8 steals per game. He is one of just 14 NCAA Division I men's basketball players since 1996-97 to average those numbers in a season. The No. 4 Cyclones return to action Thursday night, facing South Dakota State in the NCAA Tournament First Round. Iowa State is seeded second in the East Region, while the Jackrabbits are a No. 15 Seed. Tipoff is set for 6:35 p.m. in Omaha and will be broadcast on truTV.

Bilas Picks Illinois Over the Cyclones

He has some kind of bracket show on. Picks Drake to plays us and then Illinois to face us in the Sweet Sixteen. He says their "offense" (guards) will take them past our D. If we do make it to the 16, and I think we will, I'd rather face Illinois than BYU. Illinois has not faced what we bring on the D. GO CYCLONES!
