As I had been alluding to in the separate thread on here, Iowa State has pursued and gotten a flip from a Power-4 program. Salt Lake City (Utah) West offensive lineman Vaea Ikakoula has announced his commitment on social media. He's the second P4 flip for this staff over the past week, joining ex-Purdue pledge Kuol Kuol. He also becomes the fourth known OL commitment in a 2025 class that needed numbers badly at the position.

What (Who) is the difference this year?

Let me start by saying that this team has a somewhat better o line and a bunch of talent at key positions including the most important one, QB. Ryan Clanton has made a difference with the o line so there's that. But, I've argued on this board for years that, even though the o lines of past years might not have been great, they weren't as bad as a lot of people made them out to be. I've argued that play calling and offensive strategy made or broke more than one of our o lines. Of course it matters a lot if the o line gets even marginally better too which it has.

IMO, what Mouser is doing this year is keeping defenses off balance better than any o coordinator since Steve Loney. Offensive lines are very often a victim of poor in-game play calls and strategy. Mouser has changed things up a lot and it's showing. Defenses are having a harder time figuring out exactly what we might do and that takes a ton of pressure off of the o line. My opinion is that Mouser is the MVP of this team so far this season.....again, only my opinion.

Not superstitious but........

Going into the texas tech game I made sure I did not step on one cement crack cut line from the parking lot to the stadium to my seat. (Just in case.) My spidey sense that there was something not right in the air for that game, but I attributed it to my normal paranoid self from major heart breaks from the past when we are on the cusp of Iowa State history. We went on to shoot ourselves in the foot in that game..... by all rights.....we should have won. It brought back all the horrors' of the ghost of Iowa State past.

Going into the kansas state game....this Time......... I made sure I walked on every freaking cement sidewalk cut line I could find walking into the game. It worked...but I think all the magic Saturday was on the dedication, coaching, and excellent play/teamwork by the players down on the field:)

It did cross my mind though that my superstitious antics might have placed a hex on the late field goal miss that would have sealed the victory over the kitties. I tried my damn(est) to keep those thoughts of pole cats marching down the field for a touchdown and getting a two point conversion for OT. Exorcising demon thoughts of ISU past is such a tough job

Arizona State

I was looking at stats for both teams and it’s remarkable how similar the numbers are. Really hard to find an edge for either team. They’re a little more run oriented and we rely more on the pass. We appear to have an edge at kicker, but they’re a little better and hitting and preventing big plays. Campbell has been there before, but Dillingham has his team rolling right now. Looks like most books have the line at Arizona State -1.5, but DK has Iowa State -1.

One thing to add/ask about Saturday night.

Towards the end, they ran a montage of memorable movie fire up speeches...except the excerpt from Miracle quoted Herb Brooks directly. I was really into it, the timing was perfect.

And then they cut to a scene from Happy Gilmore and I would've blown a drink out of my nose, had I'd been drinking at the time.

Is this something they've done before? I would think it would have been mentioned on here if it had.

Let’s Pack the Jack Saturday

We have 10 tickets in Section E in our group. As of this morning, we only had four people going to the game due to the cold and holiday weekend. After some calls and texting, we are now up to eight for sure with 10 likely.

With everything on the table for this team, let’s all work to use those tickets to support our guys on senior day.
