Not recently. I mean originally.

Just heard a promo saying on this day in 1953, WMT-TV went on the air as the first television station in Eastern Iowa.

I grew up near Woodbine in SW Iowa, and we got our first TV in late 1949. There were two channels out of Omaha. WOI-TV went on the air in early '50 (which STILL pisses off some old SUI people; apparently there was considerable controversy when ISC got the license instead of SUI).

Just did some searching and apparently the promo was wrong, if you consider Davenport to be in eastern Iowa. WOC-TV started in '49.

Still, the Cedar Rapids-Iowa City market apparently was without TV while much of the rest of the state had it for nearly four years. Wow.

Good thing Psyclone wasn't around in those days. He'd have raised hell.
