'Twas the night before kickoff, for the Big 12 crown,
The Cyclones and Sooners about to throw down.
This has become common for the Crimson and Cream,
But for Cyclone fans, it fulfills a dream.

The 2 teams have split in their previous four,
All a tale of 2 halves, nothing less, nothing more.
The talking heads praised Oklahoma all week,
Giving the Cyclones no chance of ending their streak.

There was Herbie the Homer, poo-pooing the Clones,
And Red-Ass Rece Davis and his pathetic groans.
Believers were far between and were few,
Except for the Bear, he’s the smart one, he knew.

Then Saturday came and Jerry World came alive,
The point spread at kickoff was Oklahoma by 5.
The fans filled the palace, well, half-full at best,
As the Clones took the field, in all black they were dressed.

"Now Kolar and Purdy, Now Rose and Isheem!
Let’s go kick their ass, we are the best team!
On Enyi, On Xavier, On Breece Hall and Hummel!
Let’s trust the process and those Sooners let’s pummel!"

"To the flip of the quarter,
To the kick of the ball!
Now dash away! Dash away!
Dash away all!"

ISU won the toss, and they chose to receive,
Would there be any tricks up Tom Manning’s sleeve?
Kene at the goal line, his return skills quite nifty,
He found him some daylight and was chased out at the fifty!

The Cyclone offense reported for duty,
And their first series was a darn thing of beauty,
The o-line was crisp and they opened up lanes,
Creating room for Two-Eight to crank out large gains.

On Third and 4 from the 9, Brock dropped back to throw,
A screen to Nwangwu, Wide open! 7- oh!
That first score was huge, to get out on top,
For we know the Sooner offense is a bit hard to stop.

And their offense indeed was vintage OU,
Grabbing big chunks of yards in their first series or 2.
In the blink of an eye they put points on the board,
On a broken play Rattler got loose and scored.

When the first half ended it was 17-10,
The Sooners were leading, here we go again!
Recent history shows Iowa State knows how to shift,
Their game plan to give their whole team a lift.

At the start of the third, it is Boomer’s football,
Would the Cyclone defense give in, or stand tall?.
We all know the answer, of course it’s the latter,
For Jon Heacock possesses high-level grey matter.

OU got frustrated as our defense got tight,
Shutting down Riley’s boys to the left and the right.
Oh sure they would score, a field goal was all,
While the good guys scored twice, as they answered the call

State had the momentum, and then grabbed the lead,
As the offense made all of the plays they would need,
A short pass to Kolar and a run for a dozen,.
Plus a deep seamer to Allen and this offense was buzzin’!

By late in the game it’s the Cyclones by 4,
But OU is moving and knocking on the door.
With just seconds to play after the highs and the lows,
Rattler drops back to pass……and it’s picked by Mike Rose!

That moment in time, that will live on forever,
A testament to this great team’s endeavor.
The results would be broadcast from city to city,
The next move belongs to the playoff committee.

There were high fives, and big hugs and tears flowing plenty
Because our Cyclones just won the game, 24-20.
So in the stands and our homes we would sing Diamond’s song,
And we’d yell at the TV, “Hey! We belong!”

But that’s not important in the grand scheme of things,
What matters are those Big 12 Championship rings.
The trophy case at the Bergstrom will need some new shelves,
For the Cyclones have become the best version of themselves.
