This deserves its own thread. The meltdown over on HawkReport regarding losing MRD, a lifelong Hawk fan, and key TE recruit is epic. They can sense the end of the FreeRents era. Check out the comments regarding recruiting, and Brian F.
“8 1/2 months later, a new recruiting class is in the works, and every word of the OP rings more true today as ever before.
The Hawks are coming off back to back Top 15 national finishes. That makes them one of the top programs in the entire country. Yet the 2022 recruiting class currently ranks dead last in the Big Ten, with half the number of commits as the average conference foe.
The Hawks plummeted in recruiting ever since the Doyle/Brian Ferentz accusations surfaced. Not surprisingly, assistant coaches have finally come forward and confirmed what IowaLaw said in this very thread last year - opponents are effectively negatively recruiting against Mr. Temper tantrum/entitled rich kid Brian.
The incoming class is not only low on stars, but it's lighter than most DII teams on melanin. Like last year, this class is made up almost exclusively from small towners from Iowa or its neighbor states. The kids hail from the likes of Gowrie, Iowa (population 923), Huxly, Iowa (population 3,700) and Lansing, KS (population 11,900). The crown jewel of every class, the QB...was the 10th QB Iowa offered in this class and picked Iowa over Old Freaking Dominion, of the mighty Colonial Conference.
Let's face it, statistically, Brian has always been a liability on the field by coaching offenses that routinely rank worse than 100th in the nation in most statistical categories. But off the field, he's killing the team's future by sabotaging recruiting.”
