SEZ- Really spectacular, as many others have said. My son sat in the upper deck, west, of the new and said he had a great view. My grand kids were just excited, hot and tired, but stayed until the bitter end and stayed excited. Two new Cyclones for life, unless I miss my guess. Had to laugh at Jaxson, age 5. He had a gold ISU shirt on and was afraid that no one would like him because it was Hawkeye colors.
Offense needs to ratchet up. Sammy seemed tentative. I wonder if he was under orders to not run. Last year, he would take off, maybe too quickly, but last night he was tentative, for lack of a better word. Daley looked good and quick.
Really frustrated at our lack of a rushing game, particularly late. We had control of the game by the start of the fourth quarter. If we could have run the ball we could have had an early score in the 4th which would have allowed some subbing. Missed opportunity.
Defense was tentative early, but as the game wore on settled in and were really outstanding in the 2nd half. Played fast, smart and with attitude.
Cotton-Moya just dominated from the safety position. Corners covered well. Peavy was active with his hands late to break up potential completions. Wiltz is versatile, cover but hits. Tribune was quiet, which probably means they were avoiding him - what you want from your top corner.
As the game wore on, Tucker became really disruptive. Aka, Leath and Trent seemed to be decent backups. I didn't notice if Garcia played or not. Pierson was a terror and I really hope Taylor is ready to go, because he has more size than Pierson and can hold the edge on the other side. I thought Waggoner gave us some valuable, steady minutes. Luna was solid and Jhaustin Thomas showed that he could really be disruptive, big time. Only negative is they need to wrap the QB a bit better, but that will come, I think.
Linebacker is where the improvement game during the game. Harris' first and second half reminded me of George's first and second game. That is good, because he made his improvement quicker - one half vs. 1 game. He laid the wood several times. Jones is as advertised and Northrup is athletic and should be a good backup for Jones. Harvey looked good - for a guy not even in the 3 deeps, lol. Peters is just one of those guys. Not spectacular, but always around the ball. Seely looked okay as did Seonbuchner late. I feel so bad for Luke Knott. He knows what to do, where to be, reads things well - but you can see he is so limited mobility wise. A true warrior.
I hope Netten's woes were a one-time thing. My Cyclone experience tells me not to hold my breath. The punters did a great job.
Offensive line is still the big question mark. If it develops, we can be happy - relatively in terms of expectations of possibly qualifying for a bowl.
