A Florida prep safety prospect picked up an offer from the Cyclones over the spring and is now planning a summer unofficial visit with a pair of teammates.

Delray Beach safety Marquis Waters is one of three Atlantic High School Class of 2017 prospects with offers from Iowa State. Cornerback Datrone Young and wide receiver Corey Gammage are the others to have collected offers this spring.

“I’ve heard a lot from them and they visited me twice during spring evaluations,” said Waters, who also has Power-5 offers from California, Duke, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, NC State, Purdue, Rutgers, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

“The first time they visited I was at track and the second time was the day of my spring game. I like their coaches a lot. They have made a big impression on me. They said they’ll need more DBs in the Big 12 because it’s a tough conference. They’re recruiting my area very hard.”

Waters said he received some great feedback from the Cyclone coaches on what they’ve seen throughout the recruiting process.

“They like my academics, hustling and how I stood out on the football field,” Waters said. “They’re recruiting me to play safety for them. They said I have the speed, size and ball-hawking ability to shine in the Big 12.”

The 6-foot-0, 193-pound three-star recruit, who’s being recruited by Cyclone defensive coordinator Jon Heacock and assistant coach D.K. McDonald, is now planning to take a visit to I-State sometime this summer.

“My coach is planning on taking us up there sometime this summer for an unofficial visit,” Waters said. “I’m not sure yet on the date, but he’s working on it.”

The junior safety said he’s heard the most from ISU, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, West Virginia, UCF and Duke.
