First, SBL came home with 2 dominating state champs, Bo Koedam at 165 and Zavion (Zay) Ellington at 175. Bo is the coach, Clint Koedam's middle son and finished 2nd last year. He will join older son, Ty at Coe next season. ISU had Zay in for a visit in football (rb) but not sure how serious it got. Zay has signed to play football at Grand View. The Coe coach was at our hotel celebration. Told him he's getting another good one but as an Iowa St fan wish Bo was going there.

2nd, ISU had 4 commits in the finals. Christian Castillo from Ames won handily at 126 and looked great. At 3A 132 pounds both wrestlers have committed to ISU. T J Koester of Bettendorf pinned Carter Pearson of SE Polk. Jacob Helgeson of Johnston won the 3A title at 175.

We stuck around to see Dreshaun Ross of SE Polk wrestle at 215. Dreshaun is a top 5 recruit in the nation and is a speciman. Got into jawing with his opponent he beat in a TF after the match. Started going at each other but people got in between. Wish I would have stayed for the awards ceremony and see how they interacted on the Podium. He lacks no confident and is going to Okie St coached by former Penn St national champ David Taylor. Okie State will be joining Penn St and iowa in the top rung of college wrestling. IHSAA does a great job on finals night highlighted by the Grand March of all medal winners before the matches start. If anyone thinks wrestling is a dying sport in Iowa, they need to come to the finals. Wells is packed.
