AMES, Iowa – Iowa State senior Emily Ryan and sophomore Addy Brown have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America Third Team, the organization announced Wednesday morning. Both Ryan and Brown are first-time selections and two of three Big 12 representatives on the three teams. Iowa State is the only program to have two student-athletes appear on a team.

The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. Student-athletes must have a 3.5 cumulative GPA and the proper athletic accomplishments to make the ballot. Ryan and Brown were previously named to the Academic All-District® team and advanced to the national ballot. All student-athletes are required to have one year in residence or be a transfer to be eligible for the team.

The duo are the first Cyclones to appear on a CSC (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-America team since Hallie Christofferson was a third team honoree in 2014. It is also the first time Iowa State has had two Academic All-Americans since 2002 when Angie Welle and Lindsey Wilson were named second and third team, respectively.

Ryan completed one of the best careers in Cyclone women’s basketball history. She is the program’s all-time leader for assists (993) and free throw percentage (.885), while registering top five marks in steals (2nd, 228) and blocks (5th, 109). Ryan is the program’s 11th all-time leading scorer with 1,632 points. The Claflin, Kansas native became just the third NCAA Division I women’s basketball player to record 1,500 points, 600 rebounds and 900 assists, following Sabrina Ionescu and Caitlin Clark. Ryan was All-Big 12 honorable mention for her efforts this season, averaging 9.7 points and 6.2 assists per game.

Brown is one of the most well-rounded players in NCAA women’s basketball, averaging 15.2 points, 7.7 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game while shooting nearly 49 percent from the floor. Those marks were all top 15 in the Big 12, the only player to manage the feat in the league. She is only the sixth NCAA DI women’s basketball player since 2000 to register multiple seasons of at least 400 points, 250 rebounds and 150 assists. The Derby, Kansas native will enter her junior year at Iowa State with 961 points, 537 rebounds and 349 assists through two seasons. Brown was a Katrina McClain Power Forward of the Year semifinalist and named to the All-Big 12 Second Team.
