AMES, Iowa – Iowa State junior point guard Tamin Lipsey has been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America First Team, the organization announced Tuesday morning. Lipsey was one of three repeat selections from last season and the only representative from the Big 12 on the three teams.

Lipsey, a second team selection last year, joins fellow Ames native, Fred Hoiberg, as the only two-time CSC Academic All-America selections in program history. Like Lipsey, Hoiberg earned second team honors in 1994 before earning first team honors in 1995. Melvin Ejim (2014) is the only other first team selection in program history.

The award recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. Student-athletes must have a 3.5 cumulative GPA and the proper athletic accomplishments to make the ballot. Lipsey was previously named to the Academic All-District® team and advanced to the national ballot. All student-athletes are required to have one year in residence or be a transfer to be eligible for the team.

Lipsey was a semifinalist for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Award, while he was also a finalist for the Nolan Richardson Award, presented to the player that is the heart and soul of a winning team. Lipsey earned All-Big 12 honors for the second-straight season, being named to the third team this season. He was also named to the Big 12 All-Defensive Team.

Lipsey hit a pair of career milestones throughout the season. On Feb. 22 he broke Monté Morris’ career steals record with the 226th swipe of his career. He became the 35th player in program history to surpass 1,000 career points against BYU on March 4. Lipsey is one of just 26 players in men’s college basketball to play 100 games and average 10.2 points, 4.2 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game since 1947-48. Lipsey averaged 10.6 points, 3.1 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 2.0 steals this year.
