AMES, Iowa – Iowa State men’s basketball coach T.J. Otzelberger has announced the addition of Virginia transfer Blake Buchanan to the 2025-26 Iowa State roster. Buchanan is the third transfer to commit to the Cyclones, joining Purdue Fort Wayne transfer Eric Mulder and Eastern Washington transfer Mason Williams.
Buchanan is a 6-11 forward out of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho that prepped at Lake City. Buchanan played the last two seasons for the Cavaliers and will have two years of eligibility at Iowa State.
He started 22 of the 32 games he played in for Virginia last season and made 28 starts in his 66 career games. He averaged a career-best 5.4 points to go along with 5.3 rebounds and 1.1 blocked shots per game. “Blake will fit in perfectly with our system, both on and off the floor,” Otzelberger said. “His athleticism, selflessness and basketball IQ are all at an elite level. Blake has been a part of winning programs his entire career. He comes from a high-character and athletic family and as a result, he understands the sacrifice it takes to be a champion.”
Buchanan scored in double figures in five games last season, including a season-high 16 points in a victory over Miami. He has six career games in double figures, with Virginia going 5-1 in those games. Buchanan scored a career-high 18 points as a freshman in a victory over Florida.
