AMES, Iowa – Iowa State sophomore forward Addy Brown has been named one of 10 Katrina McClain Award candidates as announced by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame and Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) on Thursday afternoon.
Brown becomes the first Cyclone to be named a Top 10 candidate for the Katrina McClain Award which recognizes the top power forwards in women’s NCAA Division I basketball. It is named after the two-time All-American, 1987 National Player of the Year and Class of 2012 Hall of Famer.
Brown has averaged 15.1 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.7 assists as one of the most versatile players in women’s college basketball. She has shot nearly 50 percent from the floor and 36.9 percent from 3-point range through 25 games. The Derby, Kansas native has scored in double figures 22 times this season and finished with 20-plus points eight times.
Fans are encouraged to participate in Fan Voting in both of the remaining rounds starting on Friday, February 7, on hoophallawards.com. The Fan Vote will count as one committee vote during the finalist selection process.
In March, the Top 10 list will be narrowed to just five, and in late March, the five finalists will be presented to Malone, McClain, and the Hall of Fame’s selection committees, where winners will be selected. The Selection Committees for the Karl Malone and Katrina McClain Awards are composed of top men’s and women’s college basketball personnel, including media members, head coaches, sports information directors, and Hall of Famers.
Brown and the Cyclones return to Hilton Coliseum on Saturday, February 8 to take on Colorado. Iowa State will be honoring its 2000 and 2001 Big 12 Championship teams at the game which is scheduled to tip-off at 4 pm (CT).
