I ran into a fellow Cyclone at Menard’s in Omaha. He had a sweatshirt proudly “flying the flag.” I introduced myself and we talked for 10 minutes about my favorite topic.
We talked about the bowl game and reminisced about some old games. The K-State game came up and I mentioned last year. He knows an official that did that game. He said they got called on the carpet over that game having to go to the Big 12 offices the following Monday and Tuesday. He was sure there were fines involved, but Reggie was reffing the Championship game so I’m not sure I can believe all that.
He said the refs get their game assignment Friday with travel itineraries and airline tickets. At least there’s an attempt to reduce corruption.
