Many of you may only know him from the Budweiser commercial, but I was a big fan and have most of his albums/CD's.
Saw him first at the Maintenance Shop at Iowa State in about 1981. Can't remember how I got it, but I had a backstage pass and chatted with Leon for a few seconds that night.
About a decade later I saw him perform in another very small venue at Westport in Saint Louis. Again, I had backstage passes (we got our tickets from one of the concert series sponsors).
I am not a big concert person. Probably have seen less than 10 in my entire life...and two were Leon Redbone in very small venues. And the only two backstage passes in my life were both for Leon.
So I am saddened by his death at 69...although I would I have guessed him to be at least 80 years old since he looked 45 when I saw him in Ames in 1981.
