To those of you annoyed with Iowa posts who opened this anyway (I knew you would), Good Morning!
Was driving home from church last night and was listening briefly to Dolph and Fran on their coach's show. A caller asked Fran why he felt his teams had a late season collapse both this year and last year. The caller erred of course, and meant to say this year and 2 years ago.
Fran and Dolph kind of went nuts. Fran repeated about 6 times, "Dude! Dude! Dude! Get your facts straight! Get your facts straight!" And while Fran was repeating this over and over again, Dolph was bumbling around telling the caller that Iowa won 7 straight games last year to end the season, over and over again...
It was humorous listening to because Fran just wouldn't let it go until Dolph finally just hung up on the caller. Things got just a bit testy.
Call-in shows just need to go away. Whether you're John Walters or Flipper, you pretty much know what the questions are going to be, anyway. If you feel the need to do a coach's show, just do a solid half-hour or hour long interview on the current state of the program and a recap of recent games, and you'll send the same information out over the air without all the bumbling phone calls from listeners.
Some phone calls are just painful to listen to. I can't tell you the last time I listened to more than 5 minutes of an ISU call-in show...and then it's only if I'm driving across town and tune in accidentally.
