Pausing to reflect on this XMas Eve. We’re about 3.5 years into CTJO, and I still can’t really wrap my head around how fast he has brought our hoops program back from the ashes of CSP and to consistent national prominence/success.
In summary - he was a core assistant in Ames for both recruiting and Xs/Os. He was good at SDSU (non p5), not great at UNLV.
He takes us from TWO wins to Sweet 16 in 21-22. Still one of the more amazing turnarounds I’ve witnessed at any level. Foundationally he’s continued to build the program from there. 24-25? Fingers crossed for new heights in conference and beyond.
God bless Jamie. I recall he hired TJ in a heartbeat after the 2 win season. And among many, the response was “say what now?”
Respectfully few if any could have predicted how good he’s been so far - based on CTJOs head coaching resume anyway. So - how has TJ done what’s he’s done, and how surprised are you by it? Esp considering the fact he’s shown to be a coaching man among boys using the portal. Iowa State shouldnt be able to go that right?
Thoughts please. Merry Xmas.
