MBB recruiting observation - art vs science

I recall being pretty pumped when we got Clayton C because we beat out a couple of B12 programs that were quite solid (then) to get him: KSU & Okie State. And he was also a Top 100 Rivals kid. Flash forward - it became evident over time he wouldn't be in our rotation anytime soon (ever) and transfers to Loyola Chi. A Top 100 kid with other Big 12 offers never gets off the ground for us.

Enter Nick N. Committed to Marquette early, so that may have affected his offer list, but aside from us - I didn't see any other Power 5 offers (more like MVC). Not Top 150 either. I'm not doubting the signing of NN, but just an indication of the inexact science of recruiting in many cases.
